I was planning on a system for next year and decided to throw some components together, mainly to compare E8400 vs i7 920. Looking at the price difference, I decided to go with the i7. Then I compared the parts from Newegg that I had used and CyberpowerPC configuration. The prices were comparable, didn't look into OS from newegg. Anyone have experience with CyberpowerPC.

Newegg build:
CPU i7 920 $300
MB MSI X58 Platinum $220
RAM (6G DDR3) CORSAIR XMS3 6GB $195
Case Antec Three Hundred Black Steel$ 50
PCU (>500W) Antec?s EA650 $60
Graphics BFG Tech BFGEGTX260MC896OCE $270
Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS $65
DVD drive LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW $26

Total $1186

geez good deal, wonder how they make any money off that

If it comes with a warranty it is definitely worth it. More fun to build yourself though....

Not bad, only thing is prolly a crappy powersupply and a slower GPU ( non OC and 192sp's instead of 216 )

All in all, it's not a terrible deal like most of the pre-built high-end pc's are. No clue how 'good' cyberpower is though ...

I bought a black X-Infinity about four years ago...the PSU was dumped in a drawer immediately after I opened the box. Two years ago, the wife's PSU started dying, so I replaced it with that PSU still sitting in the drawer.

It lasted almost a year...

The case kinda sucks...it still contains my old build. Two LEDs were DOA, two more died within a year. Very thin, flimsy steel. Super-loud case fans. Looks like cheap plastic in person. It had well over 500 mostly-positive reviews at the 'egg...now under the Apevia brand, it again has over 500 mostly-positive reviews.

I think I got it on sale for $65 shipped. Wish I had spent more than twice as much on an Armor w/o PSU that I ended up getting two years later anyway...

Looks like they're providing an optical drive that is known not to play nice with Win64, too.

I definitely wouldn't put a GTX 260 on a 500W Apevia PSU. (500W is fine for the card, Apevia's quality is just not to be trusted.)

Other than that it looks like a very nice price, especially if it includes an OS and a service plan.

If you have the know how to build it yourself, go that route. The Cyberpower rig looks powerful, but they are cutting corners with the psu and case.

A lot of people seem to be satisfied, but have you actually read the responds from cyberpower? It looks like engrish, hell, like a little kid apologizing. It's ridiculous, and if that's how their support is, I wouldn't want to pay a DIME for it and rather build it myself, where you know you will get qaulity components all around.

Yea, I see your point.

I would not purchase a computer from this company. I was thinking about buying a new core i7 desktop from them before I noticed that all of the ram they are selling with these rigs has a voltage over 1.65 volts. Intel has clearly stated that with the new core i7 processors the ram can not exceed 1.65 volts as it will fry the new integrated memory controller. I spoke to an online rep and he was clueless so I sent an email a week ago asking them to adress the problem and they have continued to ignore it. They have likely sold many new Core i7 desktops that will fry themselves shortly after delivery.

I'm not sure if that was sarcastical. That response actually looks decent. This one doesn't:

We like to apologies and thank you for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention and work to better our service in the future. It is unfortunate that your system experience a problem after two years of operation we will continue to provide you the phone technical support which will require your assistence in aiding our tech in pin pointing the root of the problem locally it has come to our attention that our contact number for your profile is out dated and need a updated contact number to reach you. Again please feel free to contact us.

Marc, I wasn't referencing the response but the fact that they didn't seem to be on top of the tech.

I shot them an e-mail and got a response
I was considering a new Intel i7 based computer from your site. Looking at the components, a few (video card, RAM, Hard drive) just shows the type and not the brand. I was wondering if I would see or would be able to request the brand before I ordered the computer.

Examples of my concern:

I was planning on getting a Nvidia GTX260 but these come in two types but both are just called 260.

The i7 only likes RAM at a certain voltage but the configuration tool doesn't show the specific RAM.

We?re custom build system that we don?t guarantee any brand name. Thanks

Guess that means, you only find out what you get when it arrives.

That's one of the main reasons that I've recommended against CyberPowerPC in certain situations before. Their customization only seems to go so far.

I understand that PC building companies can't necessarily accommodate all customer requests in terms of brand. However, I think they should be more upfront about what brands they do use if you're going to lay down $1500-200 of your hard earned cash for a PC.

I bought my last rig from Xtremegear, which is a sister company to Cyberpower. I was VERY impressed with attention to detail and customer service. They also helped me big time, with things that weren't even covered on my warrenty, PAST my warrenty date. So if Cyberpower is anything like their off-shoot company, I say go for it.

What's wrong with the LG 20X drives? I have one and I've never had a problem with it. Then again, I don't run 64-bit Windows. Are the 64-bit drivers that different in terms of controlling DVD drives? They shouldn't be.

if you can build yourself, id just do it that way. i dont trust the budget builders like cyberpower pc...too much of a chance for something to go wrong and too much of a headache to get it straightened out. there are only 3 options for me: 1)build myself, 2) buy from super high end builder like voodoopc or falcon-nw, 3) buy cheap budget machine from dell

Have you priced the parts and compared? I thought seriously about building my own as well when I bought my last rig. However, Im a normal guy, and can only shop around buying at normal guy prices (no special deals other then sales at newegg and stuff). So I found the best prices I could find online for the SAME exact parts from a company, and was only saving $15-20 on part to part pricing. That did not include all the cables and all the other nickel and dime parts that you people like me forget about. Not to mention the time it took to build it, and make sure it would all work with no bugs or problems.
Granted the cheaper build companies may do things "cheap", however I haven't had any problems. I've bought from both Xtreme Gear, and I Buy Power, and have no problems with any of the machines. The few times I've read on the help forums where people did have problems, the customer support jumped on the problem and did their best to fix it. So for the normal Joe,.. I say just let someone else build it. If it doesnt work, call them and they can figure it out.

I build my last computer and remember it being a pain in the ass. If there are small problems, I should be able to take care of it. I looked at Xtreme Gear for the same config and it looks identical.

Cyphilis, you get a windows CD or do they just have recover disks like dell and such.

My last 2 I bought here a year ago and 4 months ago, came with a recovery disk. Ones in the past came with the real software, but I think they changed how they did things (went the cheap route).

Yeah, Xtreme Gear is a sister company to Cyberpower. Every once in a while one of them will have a little better deal on identical builds, but most of the time its the same price. Cyberpower has more options like cases and stuff, but they I'm pretty sure all the computers actually come from the same building.
I like Xtreme Gear, because its like a "small" company. If you look at their forums, there is usually one guy in customer service taking care of everyone (Joe) and he is GREAT! He almost always is the guy answering the phone, and will probably be the guy to call you to confirm it (if you order from them)
The technical service as I said above is excellent as well. I was on the phone with a guy for an hour and half testing out my rig to find out why it wouldn't boot. It was past the warrenty date, and it was my mess up (Updated my Bios, and screwed up my raid config... had to reformat). So they could of told me to get bent it had nothing to do with them, but they helped me through it, and was more then happy to help. That in itself, was enough to buy every computer I ever buy from them from now on. I also have helped a couple of friends buy from Xtreme Gear as well, and they were both really satisfied and had no problems.

One other thing I noticed above on your build. You might consider a full size tower instead of mid. With these new monster GPU cards coming out, they won't fit in most mid size cases. I have a mid tower Smilodon, and nothing larger then the 8800GTS or 9800GT cards will fit and only have 9 1/2 inches of room. Most of these new cards (260, 280) are 11 1/2 inches long. The Apevia case you picked out looks like the HDD cage is sticking out pretty far to clear the 120 fan up front, so you might have an issue. Xtreme Gear will call you and let you know that everything you picked will work with no issues before they charge you, so you won't get conned or jinxed into anything.
