building a cheapo computer...

well, i took over my brother's quest to build a computer for my sister, so here's the components we have *almost* selected.


1 ECS K7S5A + XP 2200+ 79.00 (FRYS B&M)
1 Albatron Geforce 4 MX 440SE 45.00 (Newegg)
1 FoxConn Mid Tower beige case w/ Allied 300w PS 34.99 (newegg)
1 80 gig hard drive (maxtor or WD) 60.00 (B&M)
2 256 MB crucial pc2100 DDR Ram 63.98 (Newegg)

i'm thinking this will work, but i'm not entirely sure if these components are good ones. i dont want to spend the money for an nforce based mobo, so dont suggest that

this is just a cheappie computer for a girl to surf web, edit, and print digital pictures. it doesnt have to be lightning, but i want it to go decently.

I recommend the following:

Biostar M7VIG PRO - $58 at Newegg.
-Solid board and has decent on-board video. You can drop the Geforce MX. This board still has an AGP slot for future upgrades as well.

That Case you selected is a nice case. Used it many times....with the above motherboard.

What about CD Drive, speakers, mouse, keyboard, floppy drive, OS, and monitor??

well, got a floppy too, but i may have to buy another...

If you have everything already, why ask advice? BTW, I agree with Amish on the mobo...if you can find that mobo with a package deal like the K7S5A...
