useless posts? this entire thread is a useless post. if you spent a little time with the search function you would see how easy it is to find the info you so desire.

ahh what the hell, ceelo 4 - don't spend $2000 on a machine. you can get 90+% of the same performance for less than 1/2

ditch the opty180 in favor of a opty165(retail) or a x2 3200 - both of which should get you a nice conservative o/c of 2.4GHz pretty easy

go with one of the epox nf4 non-sli m/b for ~$100, they work well and o/c good

go with value ram as a64 aren't memory bandwidth hungry. even if you o/c, running your memory with a divider is not a big deal with the a64s, get a decent brand like ocz, corsair, kingston pc3200 value ram

go the 7900gt over the 7800gtx as it is ~$200 cheaper and give nearly the same performance, actually i think it runs a little better than the 7800gtx

as far as hdd just get whatever your local best buy has on sale cheap. wd, samsung, seagate are good brand and there is always a sale somewhere

psu - current fortron, antec, enermax 450W will be sufficient, should cost you ~$50-$70

You should really just read up and learn enough to choose out your own parts. The one you won't overclock is on the left the parts for overclocking are on the right.
X2 4800+ $650/Opteron 165 $300
Seasonic 500W $120 or the 500W fortron which is really 460W I think$50
X1900XTX in my opinion for the image quality get this and if you overclock it it can go pretty damn high $520
Value Ram 2gb $160/Mushkin Xp400 $200
Asus A8N-E $110/DFI Ultra-D Lanparty UT $120
150gb Raptor $300
250gb hardrive WD 16mb cache $100
SCythe Ninja Heatsink$50 w/ fan/ or wait for the ocz phase change unit to come out :-D
Then the P180 case cause I like it $130
cd/dvd drives $100 for dvd-rom and burner
That might have actually gone a bit over hehe.

Just because no one else has said it the build that neweggster gave you was crap. For gaming it'd perform worse than most of the 1K builds we recomend.

bob4432, this is a forum where people share their KNOWLEDGE and pass it on. Sure, maybe he's oblivious to the search button, but he still deserves some respect on these forums. calling someone a "noob" or whatever slang you prefer is just disrespectful.

If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, you'll have to overclock your CPU. Also, you should stay with a single video card, because SLI/Crossfire gets you diminishing returns.

for 2000 bucks, i would get the best bang for the buck, and i think you mentioned that you want to upgrade/have money to buy new stuff later on.

CPU if overclocking - AMD Opteron 165 or higher
CPU if not overclocking - AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ or higher
Motherboard - Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe or a DFI Lanparty...stupid dfi has too many motherboard models so i forget their names
Memory - 2GB of some dual channel (2x1GB) quality ram, maybe something in PC4000 if you wanted.
video card - 7900GT at the least. if you wanted, you could go for a 7900GTX instead. the x1900xt is also a solid choice too.
video card 2 - second card if running SLI/crossfire.
Hard Drive 1 - Western Digital Raptor 150GB or 74GB (depends on how much storage you need for loading applications/games/etc)
Hard Drive 2 - your choice of a nice fast 200GB or higher hard drive with 16MB cache and sataI/II
Optical Drive 1 - if you want a dvd burner, i just ordered the NEC 3550A. its pretty damn good, and its highly efficient and quiet while burning/reading both cds and dvds!
Optical Drive 2 - i have a dedicated cd-burner, but you can get a cd-rw/dvd combo drive. they arent that expensive.
PSU - get some brand name 500watt or higher. you can ask around which PSU is best, but i like antec, forton, PC&P, sparkle, enermax, ultra (im running their x-connect flawlessly).
case - your choice.

and this thread quickly turned into a flamefest.

personally i find it disrespectful for noobs to come into forums, not read a d@mn thing except pcmag and then get upset when somebody tells them to search and learn a little on their own.

This is what I just bought for my gaming machine. I was trying to keep it as cheap as possible, but fast for the price.

Monarch Computer
$277.67 120339 AMD OEM Opteron 165 w/$60 coupon hopefully overclock it to 2.6ghz
$297.69 190884 XFX GeForce 7900 GT supposed to overclock very well
$119.99 110224 DFI Lan Party UT Nforce4 Ultra-D, choose the SLI version for $50 more if you want SLI.
$159.00 140328 2GB DDR 400 PC-3200 Corsair w/ $40 rebate

CompUSA
$69 Sonata II Case w/ 450 PS

bestbyteinc.com
TIM-ARS-535 Artic SIlver 5
CBL-PAN-3FW Panaflo 3 pin wiring thingy
HSK-TRI-XP90 Thermalright XP-90 heatsink
FAN-PAN-9MA Panaflo 92mmx25mm fan, Medium RPM
about $38

So far spent about $1,000 with tax and shipping.

Might buy a ~$60 Audigy2 ZS soundcard if the onboard sound sucks, and a ~$90 SATA HD from ZZF.

Reusing monitor, keyboard, mouse, HD, DVDROM, etc.
