anyone with decent experience would help me piece together
a decent system for ~around~ 500$

sli or xfire? mobo that has 4 ram slots
all intel base
775 to start with q6700
no over clocking (yet)
is to start with 4GB ram
2x + video cards on PCIe 2.0?

sadly i don't have the time effort to research on my
own since i have been out of the PC look for quite some time.

dont be so afraid to go a bit or so over 500 just keep in mind that
I have a 70$ case picked out and if i can get this all from new
egg would be just fantastic.

please help my system not suck bauls

ya see that requires thinking

in a restaurant, i ask whats good? they say super burger!

and I say ok, ill have one of those and a coke

im kind of expecting ppl to quote systems from 500-1000, my main worries is the mobo / video card combo
the main 2 components that really make the machine a turd / not turd

What is the purpose of this build?
What, if any, parts are you bringing to this build?
Do you have an OS for it?

I could quote you a build from $400 to whatever, but would it do what you wanted to do?? Don't know, just need some basic knowledge about what you want to do first.

alas some one willing enlighten an idiot

this will be bro's gaming rig

basically he got a fatty check and bought himself a overpriced monitor and me an acer one (thanks bro)
he wants to use another portion to buy a decent gaming rig

He wants to outright buy everything now and I opted for him to face a few of them
and simply upgrade over the coarse of like 5 months checks (understanding stuff will only get better)

So i was thinking Kickass video card(s) but i don't know which is better Sli or xfire
Decent mobo that can take above cards (well im thinking something reasonable + reliable and not costing 1,000,000$$)
and a crappy cpu to get him started (the part he will upgrade later)
then all the other parts to make it come together like OK ram, HDD and decent PSU

He sais he will never overclock but I said at least get something that he can lightly overclock.
(like how i run my 2.66 @ 3 sort of thing)

I have the back luck of getting some one something computer parts and the luck of the draw
yields the internet's #1 POS (and i don't mean point of sails)

last time i built soothing for some one, mentioning the motherboard's model to anyone
actually voided the memory and video cards warranty that were connected to it. >: (

for whomever helps, thanks so much. I really dont feel like being the idiot once again.
however I will tell him this was not my doing but help of experts of forums

You aren't gunna need sli or xfire..unless those kick ass monitors are like 27inch wide screens or something...I would say your bro really doesnt even need a quad if he just games. What I think is this..and ps Im not giving you links since you really arent putting in much effort either.

cpu- e8400
mobo- pick your fav p45
gpu-4890
ram-4gb ddr2

That alone is going to cost over $500 and that doesnt include case, HD, keyboard..mouse..optical all that crap. Are you reusing any parts or what?

its fine, if nothin else im great with "personal experience"
i have no trouble finding the actual parts or getting them

dont forget I understand gthe differance between what he needs and what he wants.
im sure im not working with just what he needs

at nthe very least ide likehim to be able to upgrade later to what he wants

im gona do a bit of looking around on the little notes you gave and hope im fruitful

*update;
forgot to note this but his monitor is a 1080 HDTV type monitor
he plans to acquire another one soon as well

Well if he's looking to upgrade his CPU without going up on the motherboard later on, I'm not sure what's out there for him under $500. Socket 775 is done, though the chips for it are still extremely effective (and remain pricey).

I guess you could go with an e6600 or something, and he could later move up to an e8600. You could also look into Microcenter if there is one near your location, as they're having great deals on intel chips. Nonetheless, a setup like that will run over $500 when all parts are included.

AMD is also an option, their CPUs are good for gaming...very cheap deals on newegg right now for those chips.

okay so get a 775 mobo (Gigabyte UD3P is a good one) and a E8xxx (8200 $99 at microcenter), DDR2 ram, and the GTX260 Core 216 from the dell small business deal

self explanatory after that, but it wont be under $500
