b4 we stir up another post.

Can i ask you what your going to do with your machine to evaluate on which route, AMD/Intel is ideal for you?

We also need to know your budget, and upgrade timeline.

AMD's are great machines, however i wouldnt look at one unless you combo the board with a SB750.

Also, If your looking for top tier, intel is the prefered route, however if your budget conscience, the AMD is a better choice.

The only thing faster from AMD then a 9850 is the 9950, which is only 2.6Ghz (vs 2.5 for the 9850). With the new southbridge they are supposed to overclock better, if you are into that. If you want a faster quad yet, then Intel has some higher yet clocked parts, but I think they get a bit pricey to be significantly faster then the 9950 without over clocking. Or you can overclock a lower binned Intel quad just as well. Lots of options for you.

The intel e7200 is great for a low price, like, alot better then amd, at only $125, so... intel either way!

get a intel Quad or get a 9950 + SB750 mobo. Intel quads overclock really well, have an higher IPC. AMD just released the 9950 and will soon have the SB750 mobos for sell and anand has a review on that with a 3.5ghz overclock on air.

So, you have these two options but Intel would be the way to go at the moment if you have already a 9850

LOL sorrry about asking for "quick" replies and then going AFK all day. Its been really busy around my shop and i had customers non stop all day. I own a computer repair shop

I dont really have a budget.. i gots lots o money and its tax deductible lol. :-D

Im giving my brother this computer and i was looking for something better. The first 9850 i had got 3.5 on water but i sold it to a customer.. then i reordered the same setup and cant get this one past 2.9. If i try the 9950.. what motherboard should i get? the sb750 isnt out yet? I havent had time to do any research on anything lately.

Ill prolly keep my 9800gx2.. so basically i just need a new cpu/mobo and hopefully theres a new AOD tool out that will make the overclocking less buggy and easier to get higher speeds

we'll see the 1st sb750 in about a week from now or mid August. There's also a better AOD version, with more tweaking options and less bugs but i'm not a big fan of AOD, it's better to do it in the bios IMO.
