Hi all,

This really isn't my first post I just cannot access my old account for some reason, says the password is wrong and I cannot find the email I used. My username is actually SLK.

On to the subject..

I just purchased everything for my new system build, and surprisingly, I was an AMD guy for years. Since the B3 stepping was released on the Intel Chipsets, I decided to go Intel this time!

I am concerned though because I think I seriously messed up on the Power Supply and I would like your thoughts.

Here are the specs:

Intel Core i5-2500K
CORSAIR XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600
ASUS ENGTS450 DC OC/DI/1GD5 GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit
Seagate ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"
LITE-ON Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW SATA
Antec Six Hundred Black Computer Case
MSI P67A-C43 (B3)
Antec NEO ECO 400C 400W Continuous Power ATX12V

I plan to overclock to about 4ghz, maybe a little more depending what I can get at stock or just a little more voltage. I will be keeping this setup for the next 3 years and do not plan to upgrade. If I do, I would replace the power supply. Will this be sufficient?

Thanks
Rob

Yeah, 550-600w is what the gpu manufacturers recommend for most single high end cards these days. Antec, Corsair, Seasonic are some of the better ones.

For what you are doing it is indeed a fine PSU. and Newegg will usually fight for you to make you happy, dont hesitate to ask them for help with anything. I have even managed to return a GPU after 25 days of me using it with NO restocking fee.

I got the Rosewill for $49 with Free ship.. I get these E-blasts every day with coupons. I read a couple good reviews online that said that this is a solid PSU. Rosewill uses various manufacturers for their different models and some are good and some aren't so good... Just have to watch which one you buy.

I guess I'm a little late to the party, but you would've been completely fine with the Neo Eco 400W.

Let's do a little math:
i5 2500K overclocked, let's be charitable and say that it could exceed its TDP by 50% = 142W
GTS 450 = 106W
Everthing else: again being charitable = 50W
Total = 298W

Yes but finding a quality unit in that watt range is hard. and if he wanted to beef up to a gtx 670 or something when 28nm came along he might need to get a new PSU as well.

He had a Neo Eco 400W, which (IIRC) is a rebadged Seasonic with 30A on the 12V, that's quality if I ever saw it.

I checked on Antecs website and it said that my system would consume a max of 340 watts. I figured it woluld be enough but oh well. $15 more, it was worth it. Sorry I am using my phone to type this.

I'm with mfenn.

OP just has an i5-2500K and a GTS450.
400W is enough even if you factor in overclocking. The Neo Eco is also a quality Seasonic unit. So what's the problem?
