Hi,
I am interested in building up my own pc. Could someone give me tips as to where to start and how to go about it. Time is not the factor and i want to buy things for pc as time goes. Well i am really interested in knowing more about types of motherboards and then its technical terms. Any resource - intenet, books or magazines ready to explore just need a way to start.

Thanks

The first BIG question you wanna ask yourself is:

"Whats my budget!"

There are too many roads you can take when building your own system, thats why building it yourself is so attractive in the first place.

and as far as technical info... its all right here at anandtech.com you really dont need to look much further

Good one, Junthin! I didn't care for that other dude either. There's a big difference between "gimme a damn hamburger!" and "may I please have a burger?"

OK,
Hi Anand1431. Interesting name. You've got great info so far. Budget has a lot to do with it, as well as the intended purpose of the box. If it's going to be a normal, everyday gaming type box, used for gaming, surfing and emailing, maybe ripping a few CD's, then you have a direction to go in. If you are going to be mass-producing CDR's or doing heavy digital video editing, then that's a different direction.

In a nutshell, you have two kinds of boards. Socket 370 (for Intel CPUs) and Socket A (for AMD CPUs). There's quite a bit more, but you can read the guides or ask more specific questions. You're in the right place. We will help you out. Cheers and Welcome!

Hmm let me get my 2 cents into this...
Well after you decide what your budget is then you have to decide what are you gonna do with the comp?
Play games, for business applications, or just for general stuff...
People here that think you should build your own system is mainly for the Power gamers and usually that means " OVERCLOCKING "
so if that's the case people usually go with AMD chip set these days for the power you could get out of them after that figure out what Mobo you might want to get anandtech has good reviews about them so read on about em after those stuff falls into place like HD, Vid cards, Sound card, etc. cuz there's only once vid card company left and also sounds card company also so not much thinking
