Okay I game a lot and I want to build a new rig with the money I have saved and I also will be using it for some work I do on the side, so I do a lot of multitasking, and use a lot of professional software, but not enough so to get a workstation or anything, also because gaming will be my primary reason for buying this. I know the price is rediculous but I will hvae this for a while and I really do not mind spending a lot on myself every once in a while, so if you could restrain from saying I am crazy and it is a waste that would be great.

I already have a custom cooling system wth peltiers and tubing and things, and I am going to mod the case, and I am also into OC'ing and have a vapochill on another machine right now so I am not sure right now, I also have a couple of sticks of OCZ VX that I could switch in if I decide to OC this machine also later down the road...I am also going to put in a custom built LCD screen that I programed to display temp readouts etc...

but I would really appreciate it if you could look over my rig and maybe make a suggestion to another brand or a better or more compatable component...I also need to know what LCD to go with because I know that CRT's are done with, so I am thinking a dell correct? for gaming of course...

Lian Li PC-75 Silver Aluminum Computer Case

DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

BFG Tech Geforce 7800GTX 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

PC Power & Cooling 850 SSI SLI, EPS12V, SSI 850W Power Supply (the pelts and the LCD draw a lot of power)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Toledo

OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 2GB's (2 x 1GB) PC 3200 Dual Channel Kit

Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive (page file and boot)

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 400GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive with NCQ (storage)

PLEXTOR Beige SATA DVD Burner

Creative X-Fi (7.1) Channels PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro

Creative GigaWorks S750 700 Watts 7.1 Speaker

The total is around $4,500.

Now what LCD should I get for it...obviously >22' and high resolutions to put that SLI to work...

Thanks a lot for your help, like I said I really appreciate any constructive input and I appreciate you taking your time to review my build.

Make sure you don't forget to pick up the life-time licence bundle for your private Ritz suite.

Damn someones got money.

Id change the cd/dvd burner though, get the new Benq one, forgot name.

There are few screens that are that big and can support anything higher than 20x15, it all depends on how much you want to spend. CRTs are cheap and the better ones can easily do high res. I have a 23" IBM CRT that goes up to 20x15, and only cost $100 refurb. But for lcds... Dell 2405FPW is a 24," 19x12 native resolution for $1200-+. Theres an Apple Cinema 30" which can go to something like 30x25 (I think). Theres more but I have to go to class now.

4500 bucks?

Holy smokes I was going to build a similar machine but with a 3800X2 and it topped out at 1700 bucks or 2200 bucks going with SLI EVGA's 490Mhz monster.

No need for NCQ in a single user environment. Also, i question your selection of a raptor especially if its just for page and OS--unless you plan on allocating 72GB for a page file. I know i will get sh!t for this, but why not pick up a few sata drives and raid0 or raid5 them (if you raid0 use the third for back up)? As for the LCD i have had two BENQs and have always been happy with them (zero dead/stuck pixels on both--one a 17" and my current 19").

I dont think you get much out of RAID 0 unless you are using an application that reads and writes a lot to disk.

Playing games, cruising internet, watching movies. I doubt you will see any performance increase using RAID 0. RAID 5 is good for reads but sucks for writes.

The Raptor is probably the best drive you can get for performance in a non-raid situation.

I had one with dual 7800GTX's and a 4400+ and it was about 2300. THe X-Fi and those speakers are blowing it out of the water.

Must, I just use the onboard sound that comes with the ASUS SLI board and a set of Lansing 5.1 speakers I have had for 18 months.

Yea, im aware of the drawbacks and pitfalls of raid0 (hell thats what im running, but i also have a backup disc), and im aware of the "real world" benches which i dont totally agree with. My comments were more concerned with the config than performance though. Why would anyone need 72GB for a page file? He already has 2GB of ram, i dont know of many apps that would page with that much ram. Maybe video editing or something, but im not into that so i could be wrong. If he wants a quick boot and page write/read he should pick up that battery powered board that you can plug ram into.

Would def go with a dell LCD...

no way. i'd go for a 30" apple cinema display. for storage, i would get a minimum of 200gb/300gb/400gb or w/e and setup a raid 5. i recomend a 3ware sata raid card. with that kind of setup, i would rather build a seperate file server.

A 24" LCD with the best price/performance ratio? I don't know how much that costs, but how does it fare against a Sony FW900 for $300 refurbished?

You might as well run dual 7800GTX cards in that SLI MOBO and get two HDD's rated at 10,000 RPM so you can run them in Raid for even more speed.

Yeah, 2405FPW rocks. Naysayers just don't have one

It isn't the BEST 24" out there but it is the BEST from a price/performance standpoint. By far.

Heaps of ppl have reccomended the Dell 2405FPW. It's a 12ms/16ms(not certain) LCD, but it also has the best contrast and brightness out there for large LCD's.

u might not want to hear this...but if you cut the cost in half, you could get 80% of the performance and use that extra 2 grand you would have used next year.

oh and crts are still better than lcds for games. look at the fw900 or other ridiculously huge but sharp crts

This is VERY true, but I'd still go with a 2405FPW just because LCD's are a lot better on your eyes and take up much less space.

P180 is awesome.
Also If you've got that kind of money GO FOR THE SEAGATE CHEETAH SERIES! Also instead of the BFG 7800GTX get the eVGA GTX KO and again... if you've got that kind of money SLI!!!! If I had cash like that I'd be the happiest man on earth.
