Building a shelf

My current hope is to build a shelf that will sit below my tv to hold my l/r/center speakers.

Might someday go in-wall, but already own the three speakers...

Requirements: shelf must be 14" deep (l/r speakers are 13" deep)
shelf must be 67" wide (possibly a bit more - TV is at least 48" wide, l/r are 9"). Good thing is that would span probably 4 studs.
Shelf must support total 50lb - l/r are 15lb each, c is 20lb)

I've looked online, but none of the kits are deep enough, except, the rubbermaid shelf brackets (which would require some alteration to obtain waf approval.

Anybody done something similar?
Any carpenter types who can give me the quick rundown on keeping this puppy from falling off the wall?

Bumping this back up; thinking about building a simple frame out of 2x's with three 2x's running out from the wall toward the outer edge.

If I screw that in at all four studs, what sorta load will it bear?

So, a rectangle of 2x4 (67"x14")

You're speakers are 14" deep? And they are bookshelf speakers? What are they?
Just curious, that seems massively deep for a bookshelf speaker.

If shelving construction people suggest not to go beyond 9 or 10" deep, I don't know what to tell ya. I've used simple shelf kits from Home Depot (with triangle brackets) and placed a rear bookshelf on it in my bedroom. But I don't think it was any more than 10" deep.
May suggest looking there, but if you are going for floating shelf appearance, that changes things. Plenty of shelf kits and tools at places like Home Depot, but the support brackets of that type may be unsightly (or you wish to not have them for style reasons) for your purposes. Take a look and see if their shelf kits offer anything in line with what you are looking for.

Consider wall-mounting your center (many have brackets specifically for that application) and building simple stands for Left & Right. Much more versatility for your speaker placement with the option to experiment.

They're 13" deep. Kef IQ3s.

All of what I've read (mostly off the shelf kits) only go to 10" or so deep

My question is more carpentry than speaker mounting.

No brackets, these speakers are pretty frickin huge.

I second CallMeJoe's recommendation for stands instead of shelves. With stands you'll also be able to have them away from the wall a bit, which should improve audio quality.

My cousin held up his Infinity Beta center by getting a wooden slab and using L brackets against the wall

He didn't have to make it look nice because from the seating position you can't even see the shelf
