Well this is my second build allthough my first wasnt with the parts I could dream of but the parts my teacher gave me. Anyways I am a hardware certified tech and I am just planning on building a gaming beast. I have heard different reviews on what to go with and just curious what you all think. I have around a $1200.00 budget.

Example parts :

CPU:AMD64 (maybe opteron?)
Mobo: Asus A8V or Nforce4? Cant decide need help with this one.
VGA: some people say ATI I say Nvidia... Help?
Sound card: Not sure
RAM: Does it matter?
HDD: Found one on newegg.
DVD burner/CD/RW: Found one on Newegg.
Floppy: Generic found.

Thanks

PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING

Case $105

DVD/CD burner $59

Floppy $10.50

Hard Drive $64

RAM $139

Video Card $459

Mobo $134

CPU $243

TOTAL: $1213.50

Now, you can save a load of cash by just toning down the CPU to a 3000+(roughly $60)

Also, if you went with an nforce3 board with AGP, you could get the 6800GT for less than $400, but then you might be limited for future upgrades.

Or you can save almost as much, $34, by buying that same thing, but just not at newegg (zip zoom fly instead). Or you can save $64 by buying the same cpu, but OEM from eWiz.

All your links are to newegg. do you work for them? are any of them competitively priced? and anyway, i think he wants more than just a list of products. to the OP, I'm afraid, if you want to build ... you have to take the time to read, and learn. there are about 50 bazillion threads just like yours in these forums, no need to start a new one.

Yes, but I don't care. I have yet to find a better deal over all since I usually buy thousands of dollars of equipment at a time, and ordering from multiple places justs adds more s/h. That and thier search engine is a lot better that a lot of other sites.

the board i listed is not an SLI boad. however, if you drop down to the 3000+, instead of the 3200, you could use the money saved to buy an SLI board, which will add more upgradeability to your rig.

All they did was link to some products on Newegg, the OP has the choice of shopping around for better prices if they choose. Low prices aren't the only thing people care about. The reputation of the Newegg as reputable merchant goes a long way here.

Do you work for Newegg's competition?

If you average price, availability, selection, service and how well the web site works, its really hard to beat newegg. My last 2 motherboard/cpu combos were thru Monarchcomputer, but my favorite site is newegg. That is why so many quote prices there. Don;t beat up on newegg, you will never win the argument.....

Oops, yeah, I should have "helped him out" by giving him a bunch of links (with no text to explain/justify why he should follwo them) to places where he can overpay for components by 20%.

Hi, why was Vick (my friend) banned?! I told him he could come here for the best possible place on the net for advice with a hardware configuration, cause you guys helped me so much, and now his account is disabled apparently because of this thread.

WTF?!
