It's been about forever since I built my current rig and I am looking to go fairly top of the line with my new one. I'm thinking about going with the following components, any input would be appreciated. Oh, and I'm probably not going to do any major OC'ing in this rig.

AMD FX-55
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
Zalman 7000B-Cu LED
Corsair TwinX 1024-3200 XL PRO
BFG GeForce 6800 GT OC (x1 for now)
Lian-Li PC-V1000B
Enermax NoiseTaker v2 600w (anybody know for sure if this fits in the V1000?)
WD Raptor 74Gb

I'm going to use the onboard audio until Sound Blaster comes out with their PCIe x1 card and I'm going to use my current IDE drives for storage. My optical drives are fairly new so they will carry over as well.

Anybody forsee any issues?

Thanks in advance.

Well if you have a lotta lotta money to blow sure, but why FX-55 when you can just a 3200+, OC to a 55 and save yourself the ($500?) for that second 6800 or anything else?

I agree here. Save and o/c

Also: waiting for creative/soundblaster to do something ain't gonna get you a new card. They're slow as all hell.

Even a 3500+ winchester, which will easily OC to fx-55 speeds, will save you around $600 (put it towards gfx!). Also, get OCZ Platinum Rev 2 RAM, they're crazy OCers according to the AT review.

I've got the money for the FX55 so I kinda figured why not. I'm really not looking to OC, but thanx for the mem suggestion

Not needed for an A64. You'll notice practically no difference over running a divider with value RAM. Link With this, I'd actually recommend the OP downgrade from his current RAM to Corsair/Crucial/Mushkin value RAM ($140 for 2x512MB).

Save and OC; it's relatively easy and the money would be better spent on graphics if you want to spend it right now. However, I'd suggest building a single-GPU system (wait for more selection in NF4 Ultra boards) and then upgrading to something like a 7800 GT, XI850 XT (eleven-eight-fifty XT?), or other next-gen GPU when necessary.

Wouldn't you rather build a PC for half as much, get the same performance in gaming (You won't notice the 1-2 FPS that an FX-55 will give you at high resolutions), then in a year, build a kick-ass system that will destroy the FX-55 one for the same price? I'm sure you could find somewhere else to put the $600: car, credit card debt , etc...

It's your choice, but I know I would personally buy a cheaper system (mainly because I make $6/hour). If you are loaded, have no kids/girlfriend/etc. to spend money on, go for it.

I assume he just means the next generation of graphics cards, ie, next years line up.

Get cheaper RAM (2 sticks of 512MB value RAM). It really won't affect performance to run a divider and if you aren't even overclocking, there will be NO difference.

Also, that hard drive is pretty expensive. It really isn't that much different than a 7200 RPM drive except in loading times, where it will still only help by a few seconds. I actual gaming, you will nmotice no difference.

Personally, I would at least wait for the SLI boards to come down to MSRP, if you really need one at all. I would get a nForce4 ultra board, or even an AGP board (nF3 ultra).

Most of these suggestions really only apply if you don't have an infinite supply of money. If you are really bent on paying an extra $800 for little or no improvement, then go ahead. But I'm sure you could find somewhere better to put the money.

If no major OC, tone the ram down a bit, grab maybe a SATAII NCQ drive, and save some money for other things, investments, booze, girlfriend something like that

NCQ is really not useful unless in a server environment. The Raptor's currently faster than anything else non-SCSI, with the 16MB cache Maxtors following a bit behind. That can be kept for the OS and programs, but a larger 7200RPM drive could be added for storage.

Even if I got the money, I wouldn't go for the FX55. Get the A64 3200+, PC & PowerCooling PSU, and another 6800GT. Use the rest for games.

Yep. FX-55 is a waste. Even if you don't want to overclock, a stock 3500+ performs almost as good as the fx-55. Use that money, like said, on other importatnt things.

I just built a very similar system with the FX55 w Zalman 7700cu heatsink, 2Gig OCZ rev 2 mem, Lian Li 1100, dual WD Raptors in RAID 0, Maxtor 300 Gig Diamondmax,MSI 6600 GPU, Asus A8N-SLI and the very quietEnermax NoiseTaker v2 600w. Plenty of power and plenty of room for the PSU. Rock solid with the factory BIOS, but I crash with the latest beta BIOS. Haven't had a lot of time to play with OCing yet...

Hmm.....Id like to see a 3200+ or 3500+ run at 3Ghz which is what my FX-55 is running at. Added phasechange and FX-55's can hit 3.3-3.5Ghz. I have yet to see a 3200+ do that. BUT, since he isnt going to overlock, it is somewhat of a waste.
