Currently have the following parts:

Antec PLUS660B Performance Plus Series Case
Western Digital 40GB 7200 RPM
LiteOn 32x12x40 CDRW

My budget allows me to spend another $650 - $700 on the following parts (monitor already secured):
1. Motherboard
considering Asus P4B533-V
2. CPU
considering P4 2.26 533FSB
3. Video Card
????????
4. RAM
considering Samsung 512MB PC2700 400Mhz DDR SDRAM CAS 2.5

I'd like any and all suggestions. Different mobo or CPU? Better RAM? Any suggestions on which video card?

The system will be used primarily for AutoCAD & other graphic-intensive, graphics-rendering applications; as well as some gaming.

Thanks!

Hmmm...pc2700 is 333mhz ddr...check that again...Pc3200 is 400mhz ddr...

At this point wait until the first week of september and you likley can get the 2.53ghz for about the same price as the p4 2.26ghz....Read article that came out just a week ago listing intel 2.8ghz p4 release and subsequent cpu price cuts.....

A 2.533ghz may be the best bet to reach 3ghz.....

I am stockpiling some funds for that cpu purchase and hopefully a dual channel ddr mobo in the 4th quarter...

Wait until you get your CPU ( it won't do you any good til then anyway) and get a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 or 4400 if you want to spend the extra bit.. Im doing the same thing as you man with the same funds.

if you want the best out there...and i believe you should...and it should still be within your budget since the MB = $150, CPU = $250, and MEM = $170, you are left with $230...
if you wait a month or so, by the time ATI's new Radeon 9700 comes out, all the nvidia card should drop a bit and it will save you some money...and CPU prices should also go down since Intel plans to drop all prices on Sept 1st...and Memory prices went way up in the past month...so just wait another month...you probably would save about $100 or maybe $200

Thanks everyone for the advice and recommendations. Since I am not in great need of the comp right now, I'll wait another month and get better deals on CPU, RAM, and Video card

Your system looks pretty tight. If you really want to o/c then look into the Samsung DDR 400 @ newegg. Also, getting a 1.8A may give you a similar o/c but for much cheaper; I'm a bit out of it in terms of current P4 prices, but unless they're relatively close, I'd get a 1.8A myself and spend the extra money on something else instead.

I'd recommend getting a GF4 Ti4200 for a video card, but if you really want that extra little bit of performance, get a Ti4400... Although waiting for the Radeon 9700 so other cards drop in price seems logical, only the Ti4600 might drop in price, none of the others will in all likelihood. The Radeon 9700 is going to be the latest and greatest, but it's way out of the price range of the GF4's, and as such is not in direct competition with any of them except the Ti4600. The $150 Ti4200 really shouldn't drop in price any, it's more than 2.5 times cheaper than the MSRP $400 Radeon 9700.
