cross-platform, but much better:
Oblivion + mods
Dragon Age: Origins (+ mods)
BF3

warning, these will eat all your time:
League of Legends
TOR

dragon age origins is garbage. Stick with DA2 on the console

league of legends is also garbage.

okay. Then I will say that Mass Effect is probably about the same on console as it is on PC. Gears of War likely as well. GTA 4 likely better on the console.

it's not too hard, really. If the game has a release on both the 360 and ps3 it is likely not too great on the PC.

KB/Mouse is always better when any type of aiming/precision is desired (anyone claiming differently is too used to consolized auto aim assist/target lock-on) but its pretty common to have annoying issues remaping keys (Deadspace and Skyrim come to mind) or screens being formatted for controler input or TV view distance.

Its also getting more common to have 75 degree view angles rather than 90. My conspiracy theory is to improve console performance by limiting amount of rendering work.

I'd love to get into steam games! Most recent game I played was medieval 2 total war but it didn't run well at all (that's about 5 years ago, so a little more recent).

Yeah as others have said, wait for the Steam xmas sale for sure.

For the sale they just had last week, I picked up the Total War complete game pack, which had, Rome, Medieval II and Napoleon for only $12 or so...

Then I think I got Fallout 3 for like $5 and then new vegas was equally cheap or cheaper...

So if you are in "catch up mode" that's definitely the way to go... you can score some great titles that span the time range you've been away for dirt cheap, like $5 per game for example.

BF3 for sure destroys the console version, so that's one of the easiest games to point to as far as PC superiority is concerned...

What will your new PC look like? Probably want to make sure it can handle BF3 without any problems.

Oh have you played the Company of Heroes series? Those games are amazing, highly recommend them....

Obviously Half Life 2 if you haven't had the pleasure yet...

Mass Effect 1 and 2 is a given, Civ 4 or 5, or both

Well this is not true at all... especially for FPS games. BF3 on the PC is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 360 & PS3 version as an example.

Pretty much the only games i dont like are really freaky ones. The PC I have ordered (can't wait to get all the parts and put it together!) is:

Case--Antec 300
HDD---Crucial M4 128gb
GPU---Sapphire Radeon 6950 2gb
CPU---i5-2500K
PSU---XFX 650w Core Edition
RAM---G. Skill Ripjaw X (8 gb)
Mobo--ASRock extreme3 gen3
Cooler-CM 212+
Monitor-Dell U2312HM

That should run games fine at 1920x1080 right?

I know its an SD drive and all that but 128GB might run out on you quicker than you think especially if you are looking to load up on some games Just a thought...

OP it would help if maybe you stated the genre that you're interested in...

Here's a list of modern PC exclusives that come to mind:

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Shogun 2: Total War
Starcraft 2
Serious Sam 3: BFE
Hard Reset
Minecraft
Trackmania 2: Canyon
Red Orchestra 2
Anno 2070
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Stalker series (though rather old)
Civ 5

And here's a list of multi-platform games that are far superior on the PC:

Metro 2033
BF3
Skyrim
Crysis 2 (with DX11 patch)
Just Cause 2
Dragon Age Origins and Awakening

Err no...since I'm dropping a ton of money on a new pc, I'm looking for pc exclusive games or games that are out for both systems but clearly better on pc.

That doesn't make sense to me - you say no, but then say what I asked.

Why not ask for the best games for your PC regardless of how they are on consoles?

Not that I'm quickly thinking of any I'd say are some of the best PC games that are as good or better on the console, but in case there are some.

World of tanks is fun...

I would say the best single player shooter on the PC in the last 8 years is Far Cry 1. Probably like $2 now and still looks as good as most of the games out there. And yes, way better then Half Life 2.

The best multi player shooter (imo) since America's Army 2 is Bad Company 2. I'm closing in on a thousand hours now and just can't get into BF3 and not just cause BF3 constantly crashes.

The Best RTS I played on the PC in the last 8 years has been Age of Empires 3 and Rome Total War (I hate all the total war games that came after Rome including that Japanese one).

Dude, you got a kick ass rig. Start playing some games already! Seriously though, you gonna love it. And when new games get more demanding (eventually they will) you can always add a second 6950. It is what I'm going to do. 6950 prices should be nice and low.

Haha thanks, cost me way more than intended tho lol. The 6950 prices are actually going up! I'm considering returning the 6950 and getting a 7950 if it's the same price (unlikely lol) and better quality.

The Witcher 2 is a PC exclusive and is excellent.

Stalker is also a PC exclusive, and while good it has its flaws.

Crysis is a PC exclusive, and looks awesome. I really enjoy the gameplay as well.

Minecraft is another fun one.

There are dozens of excellent cross platform games that are better on the PC as well.

Very true. I hope you have a secondary HDD to store all your games and other large files.

I echo the guy who mentioned the Steam Christmas sale. You should definitely wait for that to show up and get some stuff there.

This is definitely the way to go. You'll be able to get some crazy deals. I seem to recall that last year the entire Valve collection could be had for $50 (including Portal 2). Insane. Even if you plan on gaming a lot, that alone could tide you over until the next July 4th sale.

Rubbish. No sane PC gamer would vote DA2 over DA:O. Ever.

I fired up DA:O again last night to see if maybe a better graphics card made it a more compelling game.

nope! it sucks. Slow clunky action, dialogue takes forever and doesn't say anything. Characters are very wooden and overall it feels like an overlong renaissance faire.

everything I've seen from DA2 makes it seem like a far superior game. Tighter combat mostly.

Oh, in other words, you're trolling us without having actually finished DAO or played DA2.

Portal 2 didn't release until April of this year... so that's definitely not true.
