Hi all,
I'm going to build a new system within the next 45 days.
If you had $4000 to build with what would you choose?
I'm primarily a gamer.
Give me your choices!

I would choose to spend about $1500 now and $1500 in about two years, with the other $1000 either being saved or used to buy a very nice monitor that will be usable for years.

No matter how much you spend on your computer now, a $1000 computer will beat it in two years. Buying a mid-range, high bang for your buck system every two years is a more effective use of your money than throwing $4000 out the window all at once.

Is this build to replace the one in your sig? You've already got an 8800GTX and E8400...

I'm not sure what you're hoping to accomplish then. Your processor is about as fast as it gets right now.

If all you use your computer for is gaming, about the only think that could be suggested is upgrading the graphics card, but even that isn't going to be a night-and-day kind of upgrade. Personally, I'd wait until Nehalem comes out at the very least to do anything major with your system.

i agree with dsf, wait til nehalm comes out and upgrade then. Your system is already top notch.

I agree that a full system upgrade isn't going to gain you much at this point.
If you really have the urge to burn some money, a 4870 (or x2 when they come out) and a really nice flat screen (a non-TN 1920x1200 or a 2560x1600 30") would be where I would spend it if I were you.

Well depends on the type of game too actually, if it's really cpu heavy like some games out there could be (SupComm comes to mind) Then a quadcore might be a viable upgrade, but otherwise I'd have to agree with everyone else. Keep it as is and get some nice stuff that doesn't really depreciate as fast as most hardware does (a nice monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc.).
