I remembered many of my clients who are in the UK have said the same when I would link them to anything PBS!!!!

I feel BAD ABOUT THAT.

No problem.
Sometimes copyright can get funny, between different countries, even if it seems silly, i.e. why not show it world-wide.

I've had the same problem in reverse. Occasionally, UK links refuse to play in the US (if I remember correctly).
E.g. Some UK TV video links.

Fortunately youtube plays most things in most countries, so sooner or later it may pop up on youtube.

I've been speaking French for 20 years now.

coq and coque are pronounced differently. coq is similar to cock, whereas the o in coque is slightly deeper. But far removed from coke.

I don't care what the English speaking world calls it, because it's a French word, which means hull/shell. The word has been anglicized, but if you mispronounce it, you're a cretin.

Anyway: coq: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6tNbgX7CQ0
coque: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42RvgVym4HM

from a lifetime wasted watching auto racing, where the "-cock' pronunciation is exclusively used by those fluent in english, and often by those with heavy non-english accents.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul-D5jb0F_U

and from your own link,

Re "from a life wasted"....however unwittingly, I feel you spoke truth and nailed the linchpin of your clear lack of perspective, and so, capacity to experience and enjoy anything beyond the narrowness of your addiction.

Ponder.

to say that there is no pride in mass-production is also misleading.

bentley is not going to have the people, facilities, tooling, supply chain management, and logistics to build cars on the scale that GM, toyota, and VW can.

quite frankly, they're almost apples and oranges. both to be appreciate for what they are.

I never said there was no pride. But thing is Marx (and I am not a fan in most ways, but I AM objective) was right about assembly lines ESTRANGING individual workers from the product of his or her work, and all the complex and often subtle, but, insidious pricetags that bears.

thus, wonderful british cars that don't work in the rain, and wonderful italian cars that don't work at all.

No small irony that the one human I know personally, former college roommate, she and her husband are seriously rich, both native Bostonians, both Ivy League... I was in that pretentious wedding at the Copley Plaza......she is the only human I know personally who drives guess what? U Bet, a BENTLEY. And, it is RED.

She has, tragically morphed from what she once was into necrosis. Gilded cage stuff. But, while she chose this thing for the same reasons she carries Hermes Berkins.....each one costing 25K.....not once has she had a problem in any way.

This. Watched the whole bentley thing, very dumbed down across the board. (OMG sleeved aluminum v8, what a marvel of cutting edge technology. Unibody Monocoque? Wow no one has done that before)

The only thing that I find surprising and kind of idiotic honestly is that they have people hand weld the unibody. Can't imagine how they QA the welds.

Well How relieved you must be that you will never own one! Or perhaps anything with a top speed of 180mph or zero to 60 in 5.1 seconds.

Thanks goodness you will never have to endure any of it!!!!

You are correct that coq and coque are pronounced differently, but even coq is NOT similar to cock. There is no "ah" sound whatsoever, as there is in cock. One's mouth forms very differently when saying cock as opposed to coq. Cock is said with a "loose" mouth, while coq is said with more pursed lips.

Additionally, coq is not that "far removed from coke," as you claim. In fact, it is far closer to coke than it is to cock. One only has to listen to your own links to realize this.

As for my bona fides, if needed, I have been speaking French for more than twice as long as you have. I have lived in France. My father was fluent in French, because his mother, my grandmother (who lived with us growing up), was French.

In fact, she was a survivor of the Titanic, which she boarded in Cherbourg.

The word has been anglicized, but if you mispronounce it, you're a cretin.

:hmm:

Are you consistent in eschewing Anglicized pronunciations? Really? Tell me, how do you regularly pronounce Vincent Van Gogh's name?

Did anyone notice that this vid is about the Mulsanne but that at one point they show a Continental being painted?

Wow! An abrogation so huge it justifies cause of action to impugn the entire work!!!!

Does anyone here find their own desperation driven personal agendas and what they speak.... embarrassing?

He seems to just be commenting, that it is a bit startling, that a video about a particular car manufacturer/model, actually has a different model (some of the time), in the video. (Well observed !!!)
I have NOT been able to watch the video, but he has raised an interesting point of fact.

E.g. If I showed you a video of president Obama (and I said it is ALL about president Obama), and it showed Ronald Reagan, for half the video, would you not be surprised and comment on it ?

I think you're missing the entire point of the conversation. Everyone on here is unimpressed because the video is very generic, and lauds relatively non-impressive things. No one disagrees that a Bentley is a nice vehicle, but it's a vehicle for people who like to sit in their car more than they do driving it. Bentley, Rolls Royce, etc, make cars with wonderful rear seats because the owner is just as likely to sit in the back of the car as they are in the front!

You're on a car enthusiast forum. Many of us here have built cars, drive competitively and own high performance vehicle. We can appreciate luxury and fine technology. But highlighting things like wood veneer or aluminum block engines just isn't interesting. Or trying to say hand-welds or carbon fiber is something exquisite. Heck, I built a formula car in college, we had hand-welds and a carbon fiber nose. I don't think we won any awards, however.

Not to mention, a 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds is quite honestly unimpressive nowadays. A pedestrian V6 sedan can get there now. The point is, the video hits the wrong notes for car enthusiasts. That being said, I can appreciate any video that attempts to bring this kind of knowledge to the masses. Still better than the majority of crap on TV anyway.

Your post reeks more of desperation than my simple observation does. Don't you think that if actual car guys were making that vid, this simple and easily excised mistake wouldn't have happened?

Secondly, I really do appreciate your passion for craftsmanship, and your command of language. But, and please don't take this the wrong way, I am tending to believe that English isn't your native tongue. Far from being a slur upon you, my suspicion increases my respect for your linguistic erudition!

However, being a language geek, I can't help but point out that while your use of "abrogation" above might above might be technically correct, it nevertheless constitutes an awkward and imperfect usage . . . one no native speaker would readily employ.

re the e.g., a Bogus Award winning analogy if I ever saw one.

The integrity of the docu manifested (typical PBS standards for which they are famous) was in no way compromised by what you raise. I also celebrated PBS's usual quality of editing and cadence. Gifted editors are rare.

No chinanery or malfeasance there in any way.

Even my friend's Bentley, I am positive, tho never thought about it before, is made with almost the same devotion as the top of the line.

But it cost 50k less than 300.

I must slept through that part. Is Continental made the same way as the Mulsanne? Maybe I can't appreciate good interior or craftsmanship but I didn't find the Continental all that special .

My grandparents born here, my parents, and I. Again, I get paid to write (first, see all there is in a given situation with Eyes by Marcel Proust).....and am also paid to communicate verbally in my counseling work. I am consistent in both.

My use of the president Obama analogy, was in no way, whatsoever an attempt to secretly berate you/the-video or any other aspect of the posts in this thread.

Ok, another example.

E.g. A video all about Tuna fish.
But half of the video, has actually got Salmon (fish) pictured in it.

I am missing nothing. READ MY INITIAL POST, PLEASE. It is YOU and those like you who are missing what is there, simply because you are all giving this thing the assignment to be what YOU what it to be to comport with your truncations!!! It precludes your seeing and celebrating what it is, and what is THERE.

This is...interesting, given your...........rather liberal use of punctuation.

No chinanery [sic] or malfeasance there in any way.

No chicanery or malfeasance was ever implied.

But, to remain on your lonely linguistic plateau, there was demonstrable misfeasance, though, again, that is far from the most proper word to use as a descriptor of this simple mistake.

No improvement at all. Forget the tuna prolly has mercury in it.:whiste:

Again, all Bentleys are built with near the same level of excellence and devotion!!!! You are obssessing over nothing viable here.

Now I must get work done.

Entirely proper for me. Language is living, breathing, has cadence, music and is never doctrinaire Again, you are stuck in the leaves.

Perhaps, but even those many who did would not chose to use it in the instance in which our esteemed OP did.

Re: that which I highlighted. There is also your "rather enthusiastic" misuse of punctuation.

Folks, what I am modeling here is how to NOT win friends or influence people. Stop me before I nitpick again!
