Very nice rig if you get all that, but not a good value.
I'd recommend a sub-$500 CPU [X2?], BFGTech 7900GT,
and maybe the A8N-SLI Premium to save a cool grand.

With that ca$h, get a Creative X-Fi soundcard and Klipsch system.
Then you're rockin'.

*E1: If you're looking to spend the big ones though, check out
ExtremeTech's latest and greatest gaming rig.

Right now I am using a Logitech G7 mouse which I like very much and I also have a Logitech G15 keyboard which is really cool for games like WOW.

Nice, but the 1KW PCP&C is massive overkill. Any good name 600W PSU will be more than enough for that. Most 500W PSUs could do the job too, the 7900GTXs are pretty power hungry, but not as bad as the X1900 line. I'm not a great fan of PCP&C, i'm yet to see proof that they are worth the price premium, however they are conservative in thier ratings, getting the 1KW model is an utter waste. If you want to go PCP&C then by all means do it but get a lower rated PSU.

Looks pretty stunning to me, uneconomical as hell, but that's what you get for buying top of the line

Raid 0 isn't worth it IMO. You'd be better off with Raid 1 if you absolutely -want- to use Raid. Get the Z-5500's for speakers, I love mine with my Audigy 2 ZS.

if your gaming on a 23" LCD you will want SLI. You have the budget to do SLI but you need to think about some of the extravegant stuff like $300 ram and 2x raptors. For instance you can get $200 ram that will perform 99-100% the same as your $300 ram.

You will want/need SLI if your serious about gaming.

Also whats up with the beige DVDRW? lol

excellent rig, but why dont u consider a better cooled case for your high voltage high heat parts. considered the lian li v2000(plus) or silverstone tj03? 05? i think it is. or try to find that case they used in the maximum pc dmx10. i was considering the same cpu as you but decided to go with the top of the line x2 series for not much difference when not overclocking. bobthelost is just biased against pcpc psu's. search anandtech forums for the link to the extreme power supply or psu calculator and it'll give u an estimate of how much power your system will consume under load. mine in my sianature came out to about 500-550? so my FSP 600 max output should be fine for it.
found the link for you yo see for yourself: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/ remember mose psu's give their watt rating as the max output. pcpc gives theirs as continuous output. what made you go with the 1k over 850 pcpc? the choice is yours but the double price for 150 more watts isn't worth it? but if you're going high end might as well get the 1k, i've never heard of anyone using it so far tho..
2ndly why would u get a spectre 2nd monitor? just because its cheap?? it'll look bad on your desk next to your sony.. consider 1 nicer monitor instead? like an apple 30' or dell 30' dell 24 widesreen?
my recommendations for the rest are:
keyboard g15 if you have a nice open space for it, if not then saitek is fine
mouse: i used to use mx510 and mx518 and was against cordless but got a good deal on the g7 and i'm loving it except for the batter life but it comes with 2 recharable with a charging station so its fine
sound card: just get any x-fi sound card that you want. i got the audigy 2 platinum with front bay and its great for me. i love the front headphones and mic and firewire. i dont use the others much tho.
speakers if you want 2.1 you can't go wrong with the top of the line klipsche 2.1's for 5.1 also i'd go with klipsche 5.1's if you have a lotta space in your computer area.

but most importantly get a better cooled case. and thermaltake products are just for noobs. their cases are very poor quality with lots of sharp edges inside when you're working on it so expect multiple cuts. my ex-thermaltake case was a POS they was a waste of $110

btw if you're considering logitech speakers.. you should keep in mind that they have NO mid tones. only squeaky annoying highs and boomy base. i made a mistake in buying these logitechs over the klipsche to save a few bucks

are you overclocking? what's your current rig?

get the 600w psu as bob stated. you're nowhere near 1K watts

get only 1 raptor for now. it's not like you'll notice the difference anyway

why do you have 2 different monitor chosen? and why is one of them less than $400 while the other is over $1000? i'd get either a single 23"+ or get 2 monitors that are the same

if you're getting XMS ram and you're going to be overclocking with it, why don't you get an opteron 175 or 180 or something? i don't think the FX cpus overclock too well but i could be wrong

overall, yea, this is top of the line but i can almost guarantee you that if you spend 2/3 the money, you'll get 95% of the performance. let us know what you decide to do.

i would get another backup 7200rpm HD for storage, in addition to the raptor(s).

Did anyone else take pause at "building my dream rig" combined with "suggestions appreciated"

As others have said, i'd go for a core duo/yohan. As much as I love AMD, since you are willing to drop some $$, might as well get the latest and greatest CPU.

I also agree with Bobthelost that the PCP&C 1KW is overkill, it'd be like buying a Ferrari and only using it to drive the speed limit on a state highway.

I'm also with CraKaJax that Raid 0 isn't worth it. There is an ATer who is a champion of Raid 0 though, if he finds this thread he'll def. chime in.

well thats a one minded view on it, but the pcpc 1k psu is the MOST efficient cpu at running systems around the 300-400watt range, where his system is probably around

Not TOO bad, but here is what I would get.

MB: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe

LCD: Dell 3007WFP. Just get one of theese, it'll be better than two cheaper ones.

CPU: AMD Opteron 165. Use the saved money to get the better monitor.

HD: 4 Western Digital Raptor 150GB Raid 5.

CASE: Get a Lian-Li PC-1200B.

RAM: Get Corsair Twinx PC-4400 2048MB kit. It may have relaxed latencies, but it overclocks like nothing I've ever seen before.

PSU:

LCD look for 6ms as a max.
check out the PSU thread, yonah and A64 are not that power hungry (12V is imortant now, back in the day it was 5V.. yea Im getting old) (I think you could build a 4 CPU Xenon crossfire gaming server with the PSU you picked out and it would still be a bit overkill, then I would have suggested a Zippy powersupply)
if you go yonah, think about doing fatbody D9 IC reserch if you want to OC, or just wait till next months new crop of super fast DDR2
150Gb Raptors.. nice. Raid 0.. tad slower on the reads, writes will be a little quicker, but max through put will freaking rock, I like it.. CHECK
logitech G15 and G7 if you like wireless (I don't).. Saitek Eclypse, what the quack ever logitech has for a wired gaming keybord, and the G5 (I have it the other button is a back button, I dont know why people think its a forward button for your browser; but who cares its a gaming mouse!!)
sound, I wuold get the best reaonable suround sound hedphones I could find (I need to find and answer to that question myself, I need to get some )
speakers in general, it hasnt changed alot IMHO just a little digging around and your choices have just gotten alot bigger.

logitech input divises have gotten ALOT better, seems everyone recomends them now (they were junk when they first started but that's changed)
