Got my shipment from Newegg, built it last night and have been unable to get a video signal. Specs are as follows:

AMD FX-51
Asus K8V mobo
Asus Raedon 9800XT
4x512mb Corsair XMS
Thermaltake Xaser 3 case/PSU
2xWestern Digital Raptor
2xSeagate 120GB
Lite-on CDRW
Plextor DVD+/-RW
Samsung 3.5 drive

Card is firmly in the slot, everything else appears to be in working condition from what I can see and hear (Kinda had to know much without being able to look at the monitor). The fans on the Raedon are running when I power up (As is everything else). No beeps or funny LED light codes from the mainboard. Unfourtanetly I don't have another card to try out to see if the Raedon was DOA. I'm thinking about RMA'ing it but I want to make sure thats what it is before I do it. Is there a way to check for output from it and stuff? With a test light or something perhaps?

I have to leave town Thursday and would really like to be able to get the system going or alteast know whats going on for sure before I leave. I have already contacted asus via their support forum, not much luck there yet other then a suggestion to flash my bios (Kind of hard to do when you can't see what your doing). Any help really appreciated.

Is it analog or DVI connection? If there is a button to switch modes press it. Also try switching to analog until you complete setup.

Analog, no button other then standard menu options for a monitor. I just tried an old 17in box screen with the same results. I have also tried using the DVI to analog adapter on the Raedon without any luck either. I'm wondering if its the AGP slot now.

Wish I had another running computer to try this card in or try one from another computer.

Odds are its going to a default resolution your monitor can't handle. Do you just get a black screen or a "no video signal" message?

Posted at the same time. Probably not the resolution thing. Have you tried all the standard troubleshooting stuff. 1 piece of ram?

Haven't tried the single stick of ram yet, but I'll do that.

The monitor keeps a black screen with the LED flashing from orange to green (The normal standby combination it gives when its in sleep mode). When I turn the monitor off, and then back on (With the system still pluggd up) I get the "No Video Signal" Error for approx 20 seconds and then it recesses into a blank screen.

Got back from lunch and tried the single stick of ram, no good. I also unplugged everysingle power cord except for the motherboard, and the video to see if I could atleast get a "Hard disk not detected" screen, and I did not.

whoa -

Unless I missed it I didn't see that you got video on post. Did you get video on post? Did you see your bios? If not then I have to ask another stupid question... does the 9800XT require external power? Is that hooked up?

To test the video card is dead theory you might want to go to best buy and pick up a cheap card and then return it - they allow returns - not that the action is the most ethical... but it would work.

Did you try testing the new video card in your old system to see if it works? Or swapping in the video card on your old system into the new one to see if you can get the computer working?

Nope, no bios or anything. I have been considering buying a cheap card just to see if it would work, I might end up doing that. I'd hate to RMA something that didn't need it. It does indeed have external power and it is hooked up.

I don't have any computers with that style AGP slot, my current system has an old (Don't laugh to hard ) Voodoo5 in it. I tried that first but I noticed the slots were different so it was a bust there.

Not for nothing... but are you sure the AGP card is firmly seated? I had a board that wouldn't post, and would beep an error pattern to me..... Didn't really tell me much.

My AGP card however was getting hot......Upon further mucking around it turned out that the card wasn't completed seated in the slot - even though it "felt" firmly in and "looked" to be completely in. Another psuh and wigle on the card is all it took to solve my problem.

Just my 2 cents of input.

I've had the card in and out several times today and yesterday also. Its as secure as I believe it can be. Not sure how many of you are familar with this series of Thermaltake cases, but they have a screwless PCI/AGP slot thing that works off of plastic clips. The Raedon is to wide for this to work 100% Properly, But I do have it sort of wedged into posistion. You can push on it towards the slot and there is no movement.

Throw your Operating System CD in and see if it kick starts anything. If not buy a cheap card to test it.

Tried the WinXP Pro Cd package I got from newegg along with my hardware, nothing.

I also for the heck of it tried hooking a keyboard up to see if I could hold the keys and atleast get a beep out of the system speaker when I noticed something else. After I turned the power on the PSU, and hit the power button, the keyboard lights did not blink or come on at all like they normally do. I'm in the normal keyboard port on the back and I tried the serial mouse port too for the heck of it and got the same results. Now I'm really wondering whats going on.

Yeah it looks more like a motherboard/cpu problem than just vid card... check everything is connected properly.

A stupid question, but you don;t specify. Is that ram registered ? and have you tried with only one stick ? The motherboard/cpu REQUIRES registered ram. Sorry if you already knew that.....

What exact memory did you get? It has to be registered memory at least. Which means ecc memory most of the time since it's hard to find registered memory that isn't ecc also.

That's what it sounds like to me. If there were a video error, the board would give a beep code. Make sure the speaker is plugged into the correct pins on the motherboard (polarity doesn't matter). I had a processor die and soon thereafter the mb died for no apparent reason. Neither of these would give beeps. Since it's impossible to test the mb with a known good cpu or vice versa, I would suggest an RMA of both (or one at a time to see if it fixes the problem).
