Bulldozer ES benchmark is out!

Any news on what speed the BD will be running? Is it going to be one of those low speed ES CPUs or something closer to what can be expected from an actually released version?

And what speed RAM does bulldozer run at I would like to upgrade and get RAM and use it now. I see some 900 series mobo's that seem to say it is higher than 1333.

Maybe AMD is just having horrible yeilds and they at least have a few decent chips for demonstration...or not.

I think that there is a lot at stake for AMD to be able to demonstrate in the very near future that BD actually does work and is competitive with at least an i7 2600. Let's just hope that the BD they preview in July is representative of the actual release product and that they don't delay past Sept. If Nemesis 1 is correct in the other thread and BD is now set for a Q1 '12 launch it could be a real mess.

If you have read anything posted by Nemesis in the last month or so, you can take it with but load of salt. He might be right, but that's like saying Duke Nukem is going to get delayed back in the day, there was a good chance you were right whether or not you knew anything. AMD has always had trouble hit launch times with new Architectures, the Athlon was almost a year late. The K8 was 6 months late. But Nemesis doesn't know this, he really doesn't know anything AMD related.

Normally I wouldn't want to go after a persons post like that, but I don't want anyone actually thinking that it was an informed post.

Hopefully HardOCP will be allowed to do at least a bit of game fps profiling on BD. I want some reassurance that we aren't dealing with a Phenom I situation.

Is this from a new announcement? I was under the impression the launch time line was "60-90 days", posted in the beginning of June, suggesting a launch of some time in August.

Are you saying that you don't expect retail availability until September (understandable), or that the official launch is now in September?

Bulldozer will officially support DDR3 at 1866Mhz.

If bd core is faster then phenom II core by 10% and with 8 cores it might be able to compete with the 2600k.

so now the only question is what does amd do when the cpu works fine but doesn't meet their expectations speed wise due to limits of the architecture by september?

If this does happen and say its only 20% faster then 1100T would anyone still be interested in it?

Sorry that math just doesnt work for me. 10% per "core" faster than a Phenom II might make the 8 core BD compete with a 2600k, but that would be in a perfect scenario using 8 cores to the max.

I would venture to say that isn't going to benefit many people.

Am i correct in assuming that once all 4 cores on a 2600K are fully loaded any more threads would cause a large performance drop off so even a cpu thats usualy slower, but has more cores. (980X) ends up being quite a bit faster?

That can happen from resource contention but in practice it happens for so few apps that it is rather a rarely experienced corner case.

For the majority of apps it appears that loading all threads, logical and virtual cores, does result in more aggregate performance.

Note this will be true for bulldozer as well in that there is the possibility that loading more threads than modules will result in performance degredation as resource contention comes into play. The expectation is that this won't be a practical issue though, except for those rare occasions.

You can start exploding now. AMD clearly said that PIBs would be available 60 to 90 days after June 1, which puts it firmly into August. You won't get any official benchmarks til then.
