AMD names their chip architecture after race tracks?
They have for a while now. They sponsor Ferrari's F1 effort.

Funny you should say that... I own 100 shares of Amd stock. And I want Amd to succeed as much as the next guy.AMD is a business, not a charity. Their shareholders would be rightly infuriated if they didn't maximize profit, which when capacity constrained requires getting as much per product shipped as possible.
Or AMD is expecting to sell every processor the foundry gives them despite having a slight performance deficiency. Lets check our bases:
1: AMD could perform better than SB
2: AMD could perform the same as SB
3: AMD could perform worse than SB
This is the most accurate post in all of the bulldozer threads across every website ever.
Then Amd is positioning the FX8k's to take on SB-E. Where as the FX6k's will take on the LGA1155 i7's.

Don't hold your hopes out for an Indianapolis or Luna Seca though.
Perhaps another refresher of just how slow Phenom II is in the cards: Core i7 920 @ 3.5ghz is 45% faster than Phenom II X4 @ 3.5ghz in Arma2. SB adds another 15% on top of that.

That makes sense. And I've actually been boycotting AMD for years because of their connection to Ferrari (same goes for Shell, Puma, etc). It's funny how advertising can work against a company sometimes.
It's clearly a server cpu - lots of cores, lower IPC. Not surprising as that's where the money is - they can charge twice the price for what is basically the same chip. I agree that those who think these will be killer desktop chips are more hopeful then realistic.
Llano is the desktop chip and we already know the cpu performance of that.
something tells me power consumption wont be equal still. even if AMD wins in performance against SB, i'm pretty sure the idle power of my i5-2400 is amazing and the right choice for a NAS
I was on our forums before Phenom I/II launched and I still remember how much hype that processor carried. So for this launch, I am preparing myself to be disappointed so I don't become disappointed....again!!
I really wanted Bulldozer to just blow SB out of the water. We all did.
It's kind of weird to say that in the past tense when the chip hasn't even been released yet.
And if the Asus slide is no fake, then 8 cores at 3.8 GHz (more with Turbo) should be fast. How would a Phenom II X8 at 3.8 GHz base clock and with Turbo Core 2.0 perform?
So with all the Phenom hype, I was so excited for AMD to Conroe the market back to what they used to be. I was so let down when I read the Anandtech article. It felt the same as finding your father by accident in a Santa suit on Christmas day when you are 6 years old. Sure the next Christmas is fun and exciting, but never again will it be mindblowingly awesome as it was right before you found out there was no Santa.
Since then I have as well been preparing myself to be disappointed on most hardware launches. I really wanted Bulldozer to just blow SB out of the water. We all did.
Would be nice to see Bulldozer have a performance advantage over SB for this short period of time. 6 months or so later Ivy will reclaim the throne and the vicious cycle continues.
If the throne is determined by the fastest cpu ivy won't change a thing within 6months... Maybe over 12months... when they lift ivy bridge to the high end.
Who knows AMD might want to price it similar to Intel offerings but may have a huge performance advantage at the same price point.
Sure, in the short term price wars are good for us.
