Burn in?..... Well, Stability test....

What do you do to 'Burn in' a new system... I say it that way, because there really is no such thing as 'Burn in' for computers... It should be called a Stability Test...

So what and how long do you do a stability test?

I usually keep running 3dmark 2000 for a day or so.

If you really want to test your system, Prime95 is the way to go. If you have a really fast procesor 1000+ mhz then 3Dmark won't utilize all that power and it's not a real test. What Prime95 does is that it uses 100% of your CPU power all the time, setting it at the lowest queue so it won't interfere with some other programs if you wish to use them. Before using it, I would have my 1.1 Ghz athlon at 47C IDLE and would push to 52C after some hours of counterstrike or UT. But Prime95 pushed that sucker to 55C!! utilizing every molecule of power exerted by that athlon beast.

It's one of the best CPU stability testers out there.

On my Duron 800@1000 using Prime95 I get "hardware failure" and then it stops. But I have run Rc5, seti@home, and played CS,UT,D2, for hours on end without a single lockup. Just the other day I ran Rc5 for almost 15 hours straight and it was still cracking. Then I played 2 hours of UT and ran smooth. Sorry to rant... anyway all of the forementioned programs would serve you well.

I use a combo of programs like 3D Mark looped with RC5 running in the background.

I put on UT... Put myself in observer mode, and Start up a bot match with about 9 bots... Set the max for time and frags... And let her rip... Let that go for about 8 hours...
