burned by gigabyte

So recently i got a i3-3250, i was planing to use that cpu wih my gigabyte GA-H61M-S2V-B3 mobo paired with a 750 ti, the box clains "support for Intel 22nm processors" so i figured it was fine... to my surprise the mobo only supports up till the i3- 3240 and there is NO bios update in the site. To add further insult to injury, there are plenty of other giga h61 mobos that DO support this 22 cpu, some of them even worse than mine!

So i had to return the cpu and get this... buy a new motherboard, cpu and ram for a mere 6%- 9 % increase in performance. The wost part, it was friggin expensive!, prices in my country are abs INSANE, like 245 dollars for the cheapest zotac 750 ti , and the store only had gigabyte boards ! so YES Got yet another giga B85M-D3H board to my collection... but hey not the cheapest h 81, the B85 maybe this new one will offer decent bios suport in the future but in not holding my breath, well the i3- 4160 its a snappy cpu, but i rather had a i5 ( not enough budget after that debacle ) THANKS GIGABYTE

My Gigabyte mobo has been awesome for me in my experience, very stable and able to maintain high overclocks even at a budget price.

It's Gigabyte's fault for claiming "support for 22nm Intel processors" and not explicitly stating it doesn't support some 22nm Intel processors.

Did you even try them? I don't recall any stepping changes between the 3240 and the 3250. As long as the BIOS has the appropriate microcode patch for that stepping, it should work just fine.

+1 nothing to lose, sell the board if need be with stuff being so costly I'm pretty sure you'd re coupe most if not all your money. Have you tried the Tweaktown forums? They have a gigabyte rep in there..........

Argentina, in Bs As prices are a tad better, but where i live... like i said. yes i guess it was my fault... trusting in gigabyte claims @ i mean, 3.40 GHz ok but 3.50 GHz no? Supports 3rd Gen. Intel® 22nm CPUs my ass! anyway i didnt have much choice in the mather, it was either the 3250 or a i7 3770 , ( fun fact, that one its supported, but cost more than the new mobo, 8gb ddr 1600 fury and i3- 4160 together, an overkill for a 750 ti and such an old and evidently unsupported platform...

true. but the 3250 was cheap. it ended up being (expensive) :/ and like i said its not like i had much choice.
