Burning 16x cdr's at 32x

I learned something new today. I just got my new Lite-On 32x burner and went in search of some 32x media to try it out. Stopped by my local Staples and found that they had only 24x cdr's available. While I was debating buying the 24x's one of the Staples guys comes up and asks me if he can help. I asked him what would happen if I tried to burn these 24x's at 32x. He told me that they will only burn up to 24x and that was that. So I figgered what the heck and bought 50 of the 24x's for $15. When I got home I dropped one into the tray and proceeded to burn 700mb of .mp3's at guess what...32x. No problem. Tried another test. 32x, no problem. Feeling smug, I got out one of my Fuji 16x's and gave it a shot. Guess what? 32x, no problem. I don't know whether to credit the cdr media or the burner, but I don't really care.
From now on, I'm just gonna buy no more than 16x media. No reason to pay for anything faster.
BTW the 700mb of .mp3's only took a little over three minutes to burn!

I have used 2x certified CD-R's at 16x before.

I burn once burn 1x CD at 10x... I think that it just marketing (you can burn at any nx)
.the only thing you have to worry about is the CD Writer

w/ the exception of CDRW discs

i could only get up to 20x with my verbatim 16x cdr's on my lite-on 24x burner

you can usually burn a cdr at a higher than its rated burn speed but not a cdrw(rewritable)!

I have also tried burning a 16X media at 32X. However, be sure to check that the cd is okay because this cd audio that I burnt has a lot of skips and it was barely any good.

interestingly, plextor limits the write speed of audio cds to x24 with the new x40 cdrw drive!

Burned my 8X Ricoh CDR at 24X for Data. I kept the audio burning at 8X fearing overburning might lose sound quality.

cdr media can be burned at a higher rate.

but that doesn't mean that media has no limit.

you will often find a 16x rated cd-r to burn at 24x or 32x.
but when you find one that'll only do 16x... don't be blaming it on the burner.
it's your media that's not good enough.
