Can you do us all a favor and scan that shelf tag you have? I went there to a BB around on monday as well... surprise surprise, they were out too.... and now i'm trying to find a way and get myself a drive for 60 before rebate.... thanks

uhm didiee your a lil late. there's no way in hell ur gonna get it for $60 before rebates. its already the weekend and a new set of deals. so if you still prob the best you can do is pricematch for $109 if you have the frys ad and get the two rebates. One for $50 and the other for $20, but the deal on the $20 rebate expires today. the 12th.

SO, for all of you skipping down to the bottom, BB is basically paying me $90 (120 gc - 60 (paid for orig drive that I returned)+ 20 rebate + 10 rebate (that 10 profit for me after the 59 drive - 70 rebates) from drive I kept) for all that hassle they caused me. All could have been prevented if I just got the damned store number.

Doesn't store number prints out on top of your receipt?

Heads up for those who bought this drive (no matter what the price is)...
I bought one, installed it.. No CD burner software worked with it (except Nero 5.5 that came included).. After a bit of research and downloading of updates I came up with this summary:
If u use Adaptec/Roxio EZ CD Creator 5 - u need version 5.02c or newer in order for Adaptec to see this drive.. Also if u use XP - download Roxio XP updater...
GoldanHawk CDWIN - u need version 3.8G or newer...

Also at CES TDK announced 40x burner...

Welp to those of you who were actually able to get in on this great deal, congrats...it will probably go down as one of the hottest deals of 2002, since you're getting PAID for a burner. I had purchased my burner at BB at the full price earlier this week and received my $70 in rebate receipts, and yesterday I stopped by CC to picked up an ad, and they had 1 left in stock! So I took the price tag and scanned it, then ran down the road to BB to get my receipt adjusted. Well, I showed the CSR person CC's price, and how much I paid, and that I would like a PM, but she said "Well before the rebates it's $129, which is the same as our price" and, honestly, really didn't give a s*** what I said after that, so I asked to speak to a manager, who pretty much told me the same thing. So I asked for the phone number to BB Corporate, which she gave me. I immediately called them in the store, explained the deal, and told them that I know of other people in other states (heh, the good folks here at Anandtech) and how they got it, and she told me that it is at the discretion of that store (so much for PM policies). This leaves me at the final question "Why the hell do I keep going back to BB when they are full of s***"..... I guess I'll never know! I'm returning my unopened drive today, so if anyone in Memphis wants to go to the Winchester store and get it, it's all yours. I'm still going to send in the $20 rebate that doesn't require anything cut from the box

With the way you attempted to do the pricematch I can't blame the people at Best Buy one bit. You took in a scanned price tag from Circuity City saying it's $59 after $70 in rebates, right? And that's EXACTLY what Best Buy is charging for the drive right now right? So what is there to match? What you needed was a scanned receipt of someone who got the drive from Best Buy earlier in the week when they were offering it for $59 OUT THE DOOR. Not only can I not BLAME the Best Buy employees a the store you visited, I actually feel pretty sorry for them, because it sounds like you put them through a lot of hassle without all the facts straight.

I don't believe you can pricematch it anymore. The deal was only for 2 days only - TDK 24x for $57...

Plus, the policy that we use at BB is that the item has to be in stock at a competitors location at the advertised price (need the ad) before you can PM anything. Although it does vary from BB to BB. I even went through to ask my CS2's at BB if they could price it down to the special price of the day before, they said unless it was in the ad, they cannot do anything. Well, if one of you get lucky, good job.

Well he sounded pretty desperate trying to PM $129 from BB to $129 CC. If you look at it that _correct_ way, then sure enough, BB matched the price for him!

I like free after rebate components as much as the next geek, but some deals just aren't meant to be. No sense crying/whining about it and ripping stores off (i.e. the dude who bought from one store at $59 + tax and returned to another for $109 + tax in store credit).

I have to weigh-in with the rest of you; the people that are openly stating their behaviour are only creating the red-est of flags out there and creating more obstacles for legitimate price mathes and other combinaiton deals. It's the anandtech-rage.

To answer my own question, I just got the drive for $59.97 today! And I also got the $70 in rebates! On a side note, I returned that 52X cd rom drive I bought earlier with a $10 off $40 coupon and they credited me the entire amount, without taking off the $10. I don't know how they are suppose to stay in business.

The numbers on the receipt and the rebate form are matched, and is used to make sure people can't pulled tricks like that. Shame on you trying to defraud BB for $20 and hope you will get caught.

After reading wirespider's successful buy, I'm not reading this thread anymore; it just creates to much lust in my heart! LOL I've too much to do than to jump up from this desk and start trollin' the local Best Buys that I didn't visit (which is a forty mile round trip) and get disappointed again. And besides, as much as I'm not into the NFL football, friends are coming over and we'll watch those Raiders finally take some revenge on the Jets. But I'd rather have that 24X with $70 great rebates. Shuckems.

I FINALLY GOT IT!! CC & BB in Paramus, NJ!!!

Here is the complete story for those who are still interested. I went to my local CC last Monday to place a special order since they had nothing in stock. The price was 129.99 - 70 rebate. I got rebate forms (50 & 20) when I paid for my special order. Stopped by BB on the same day and they did not have it. But their price was 59.97. I said.. "Fine.. I will get it eventually from CC." BUT..after following this thread for two days... I had to go back to BB on Thr. morning (I knew that they were getting new shippments on Wed night). I found one on the shelf. Tried to explain about Monday's price (59.97)... but didn't work. So.. I just paid 129.99 and got two rebate forms (50 & 20). I installed my drive and was very very statisfied with it. I mailed out my rebate forms next day (yesterday), one for $50 and one for $20. Best Buy rebate forms didn't require me to send in the original receipt. So I sent in the copy...

Today... I went back to CC to cancel my special order since I already got one from BB. I was also going to stop by BB and try to get price adjustment with BB shelf tag and some receipts I got from you guys. When I got there, CC, I saw a bunch of them on their shelf. I aksed one guy why they never called me when they had that many on their shelves. (Remember? I placed a special order? They were supposed to call me when they get them.) The guy said that they JUST got it. I didn't believe him until I saw a list of phone numbers on his hand. And yes... he was actually calling people. He asked me if I want mine. I said "No, I want to cancel this." He told me to go to the customer support desk.

As I was waiting on line... I thought... "Why don't I try to get PM here, also? What's there to lose?" So... when I went up to the CS lady... I showed her BB shelf tag that has $59.97 on it (no rebate).. and I also showed her receipts that showed 59.97. One was from Kentucky and one was from Missouri. I had this whole bulls**t story that I was going to tell her if she wouldn't do it. But... she didn't even look at my receipts except prices on them and took the BB shelf tag. And she started to type something on her terminal. And... YES! JOY!!... I saw her typing "59.97" and "Best Buy"!! No question.. No Nothing! Just a print out of BB shelf tag!!! She asked for my credit card so she could give me the refund!! I signed the new receipt...and... I saw my TDK drive arrive behind her!!! I had to try very hard not to laugh... My wife was next to me and...yup...she seemed very puzzled!!

So... I had two TDK drives. One was already installed on my PC and one was new. I paid 129.99 for one...and paid 59.97 for the other. I sent in rebate forms..but didn't know when they would actually arrive... So... I decided... why don't I return one I paid 129.99 for and keep the one I paid 59.97 for? Of course...the one I paid 129.99 for was already installed on my PC... But it didn't matter...

I took the one I just bought from CC and went to BB. Revenge time! Yup.. even if I didn't go into details... BB gave me hard time... So... I went up to the CSR... and politely... returned the drive and got the credit back!! I didn't do any harm to BB except rebate forms. I don't know if I would get it now... I don't mind if I don't get it... I got my TDK drive @ 59.97 and I am happy. I have two other rebate forms from CC. I cannot send in $50 rebate since I don't have UPC. $20 only required the copy of UPC... which I have... I could send this in... this will make my final price 59.97 - 50 - 20 - 20 = -30.03! I make $30 bucks assuming I get all rebates... but I am not sure if I would... I won't send in $20 rebate form CC.

I will wait and see if I get BB rebate checks... I will defintely let you guys know when I do...

Well, I returned mine today to get a replacement because the Digital Audio doesn't work. I asked the computer tech guy at the computer test lab to get one off the shelf and then test it to make sure that the Digital Audio jack worked properly. The manager dude would not test one from the box. He simply said they could exchange it only. SO, I take the new one home and bam, no digital audio, same symptom, solid light, not recognized at boot up. If I use the analog cable all is well. The only thing positive about this whole thing is that they printed out the rebate receipts again and gave them to me. SO, because my digital audio output doesn't work, I'm going to mail in the other $20 rebate and make them eat it instead of me! I suppose I could try returning it again, but this is getting rediculous, I bet everyone is having the same problem.

WILL SOMEONE TELL ME IF THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT ON THE DRIVE??????

The problem with the digital sound connector is a known problem that effects the Lite-On drives. Lite-On knows this but aren't willing to fix it. you should have kept your drive if you received it for $60, but if the digital connector is a sticklier to you then i guess you did the right thing.

By the way, Bay Area people, this deal is dead, I've tried countless CC's and CompUSA's and they will not honor it. Oh well, no harm done. Thanks anyway for the heads up.

Well, I was planning on returning the drive to CC after getting it for $59 before rebates at a BB down the street. I thought I might as well try to PM it. So I go to CC, and present all the copies of my receipts from BB (don't want angry CSRs tearing up my BB receipts). Go up to the customer service area and the girl has no idea how to do this so she calls for a higher up. This is where the fun begins...

This guy takes a quick at my receipts and snaps, "This is not the same drive.". I put the receipts side by side and tell him to look at the product codes. He doesn't say anything. He picks up his cell and calls someone, no answer. He calls BB using the company phone (it's apparently on speed dial cause he only punched in a button or two). I find out his brother works at BB. Bro must have mentioned it was $129 with a $50 rebate. (I notice how BB doesn't seem to realize there is a $20 on this puppy.) Hangs up and tells me he can't do it. I ask him why. He says my receipts are from the internet Now I'm getting a little pissed. I point to the BB receipt which has the address of the store down the street, and my first intials and last name printed on the bottom. He bluntly retorts, "This is printed from the internet!". Ok, where are these people getting an education??? I tell him I can produce the originals that are sitting in my car. He replies that he's just not going to do it, he doesn't care. Ok. I counter with the fact the burner is in my car and I'm returning it right now. 30 seconds later, I've returned with the drive and he's nowhere to be seen.

Look, I have no problem being shot down for a pricematch. It happens and I deal with it. But there is no reason for this person at CC to cop a major bad attitude and insinuate that I am lying about the price at BB. Now the bigger picture is if this BB employee can get it for $59 knowing what's floating around online, but purposely denying any customers from getting in on this deal? (Just my conspiracy theory mind kicking in for a brief second.)

Anyhow, I already have my drive from BB, and the CC one was just gonna give to my buddy anyway.
