!!!!! BEST BUY REBATE FOUND !!!!!

Yea Baby! For all of those who already picked up the drive and didn't get the rebate printed out , here is the link from Best Buy.

TDK 24X10X40 Rebate

I figured if they printed out at the store then they should be on the web site.

I got my two rebates form ($20 and $50) from my local BB tonight. The question is $50 rebate seems same as CC's, same address, same program. Coz I also got one burner from CC, I doubt I can't get the
two $50 rebates(one rebate per household limit) though one from BB, the other from CC. Anybody can
figure it out?

this is definitely gonna be one of the hottest deals of the year, only if more people, including myself, could get it at $50 with $70 rebate.

Okay, I first saw this thread and thought to myself, "Gee... it'd be nice to have something faster than a 8X burner." After a little while, I just said screw it and that I'd upgrade my video card. Tonight I decide that I want to screw Best Buy. There's no way that they can deny you the price of it when you have the sku of the product. If they try to, I'd just ask for the store manage and throw the biggest argument that I could at them. Best Buy is not a franchised operation where they can sell products for different prices at different locations. So I'll be damned if I don't get my burner tomorrow for $59.97 even if it is in raincheck form.

Anyone in the Savannah, GA area interested in the drives, check out the best buy as they have a bunch (roughly 10 or so) on the shelves, ringing up at $129.99 though. Not bad after rebates, though I got a Lite-On drive for $56.91 tonight at Sam's Club (last one though). Have fun.

Gee, I,m kicking myself..there were two left Sunday and I thought it would be nice to leave one as I knew it sure made my day...If I knew I was going to make money besides getting such a nice burner I don,t think I,d of been Mr. nice guy...My girl friend is on me for not getting her one too...I already burn,t stuff I couldn,t get a good burn on before... I had my mind set on either a Lite-On or Plex..If these rebates come thur it will be the best deal I,ve seen and I,ve been in a bunch...

These Lite-On`s are more in demand then the Plex due to price, you can always pay a lot more and get a Plex..

BTW, they got some more in, TDK`s at BB Crestwood,IL today where I got mine..now 129 with the 2 rebates for $70...they sold everyone they had with in 3 hrs. they said...

Went to the same BB i was in on Monday just for the heck of it...and they had six of these on the shelf! they didn't have any on Monday??? the sign said 129.99 with a 50 MIR. i'm in San Diego so i grab two and PM them to the Fry's ad of 109.99. with the 110% price match policy at BB they turn out to be 107 and some change.

...and yes the two rebates print out at checkout. $50 and $20 rebates.

so, for 107-50-20 = 37 final price...i'm OK with that.

BTW...after i got these home...i checked AT and printed the scan of the receipt from the KY store and took it in for an adjustment...No way! The store manager told me that the cost on these to BB was $120, and he would not approve that price no matter what.

Thanks for the post...good deal. Even if i didn't get paid for the purchase.

Well, what's the status on this from everyone who missed the deal on Sunday?

I purchased this drive at a local "Store X" (at which I'm an employee) at cost last week for around $129. I printed out the Best Buy tag and took it in to work on Monday night and C.S. told me they couldn't price match it w/o a manager's approval. So, I went and talked to the manager-on-duty. She said she couldn't approve it until the G.M. was in, which would be the next day. Damn it. (They didn't believe the deal, to tell you the truth.)

So, yesterday morning I went over to the local Best Buy and got them to print out the sheet that said the lowest price on that unit was, at one time, $59.97. Ironically, though, the regular retail price on that sheet was $149.99 and the current "promotional" price was $129.99. Anyway, I take that sheet and the copy of the Best Buy tag in to work to talk with my G.M. He looks at it and is giving me all this B.S. about, "How could they do this?" and, "This is way too low... I can't do it." I just sat there. I wasn't going to concede and say, "Hey! Sure! Screw me out of my legit $70!" Anyway, after about 15 minutes of him looking like he's going to sh*t his pants, and me thinking, "He's gonna want to fire me over this," he takes both sheets from me (damn it!), says he'll think about it and get back to me. Yeah right... He also said that if he can't PM it directly (because the rich f*cker would "lose too much money"), he says he'll make it up to me somehow (i.e. if there's anything I want in the store).

Anyway, he also said I should have picked it up from Best Buy when I had the chance (even though I was never even at the store on Sunday)... So, today I go on a quest to get that mother f*cking drive for $59.97 if it kills me. A matter of $70 is a lot when you're looking to pick up $600 worth of stuff the following weekend for the computer you're building. I'll see if I can get the drive today at the local Best Buy and Circuit City ($59.97 instant, no rebate B.S.) and I'll let you all know...

Has anyone else tried it? I know the deal supposedly ended on Sunday, but I know some of you picked it up even yesterday for $59.97. How? PLEASE REVEAL YOUR SECRETS!

Thanks a ton...

I took the Louisville scan to my BB. They were really nice and spent a long time looking at it, but said that they couldn't honor it because it ended with ".97" which indicated a "market reaction' - i.e., probably a price match to a local Kentucky competitor. Then one guy went to the computer, typed in some numbers, came back and told me that the BB unit cost was $114 at which point he said he felt it was an error at the Louisville store and proceeded to tell me of shelf price errors which had occurred at this store (and which had to be honored).

Oh well, guess I'll have to be satisfied with $59.00 for a "Lite-on" 24x burner!

Have any of you confirmed the fact that the unit will not work with an audio cable connected? Is the only purpose of having the audio cable so that you can listen to what you are burning?

I guess I can live without that functionality for a 24x burner at this price.

AMDStunna,
Good luck arguing with BB managers. In my experience they're the biggest bunch of fargin' iceholes around.

SCORE!

I picked up 2 drives for $60 apiece, one for me and one for a buddy at work who's doing some work for me this weekend! Plus, two rebates printed out for each, a $20 and a $50.

THIS IS A SWEET ASS DEAL!

In case anyone wants one and lives in Colorado, they had about 7 left at the Park Meadows Best Buy in Englewood.

I saw the thread for this deal sunday, so I checked CC web site for in-store pick up of one these drives, only one of the four had any left, so I order one, but no TDK on BB's site, so I call two stores sunday and two more monday, all gone in the west L.A. area, not looking good. Then I see in a reply by Casper42 over on FW, that he got one at BB on monday for $59.97 from Thousand oaks CA , ask him for and received a emailed copy of receipt. On tueday go to CC to pick up the drive and do a PM, just as the girl at pick-up looks at the receipt the manager walks by and the girl give her the receipt, she looks at the back (where BB's name should be printed) and says, this dosen't look like a BB receipt, I'm thinking,O no! real bad timing, she has a guy check the BB's web site price, he come back says no TDK listed there, how can I verify the price?, (we all how hard it is to get someone in the computer section at BB to answer the phone at 6:00 P.M.,which was why I came in at that time), I said call the Thousand oaks store. So after he and the manager spending 20 mins on the phone with no answer, the manager gives up and gave me the PM.
$52.99,plus $4.37 taxes out the door. So I have a FREE 24X CD-RW and a $12.64 profit after rebates (which didn't print out at the register), but no big deal, I had already downloaded the forms off CC's web site.
I didn't get excited until I got home and read the part on the box that says, burn a full CD-R in 4 minutes.
A big thanks to Casper42 for the receipt scan, which make the deal possible for me.

y00yCDz at FW is hosting the scaned receipt here : Link to Thousand oaks receipt

the X at the end of the model (for Roxio's website) is not the letter X, but rather a place holder... so it will work with A or B or C if one comes out...

Look on hotjobs at some people's resume and you will see: Win 9x.... this means they are familiar with windows 95 or 98.

Hope this helps.

My story:
Went to BB. None of the shelf. Instead of asking the geek that worked in the dept (he would probably be in on their hiding-item-in-the-stockroom technique), I asked the girl up at the CS desk to see how many of them (I read the SKU to her) they have in stock. She said 12! [So here again is Best Buy hiding their stock when it goes on sale somewhere else. Just like the Black Friday hard drive and GF3 Ti200 deals.] I went to the adjacent camera dept and told him the PC guys were busy (they were) and asked if could he go in the back and get me a drive since they have 12 in stock. Brings me a drive, talks about how great of a drive it is, that it burns in 4 mins (me: Really? Ha.), asks if I want to ring it up at the PC dept register (I think not). Make my way to the front register.

Another geek (Encyclopedia Britannica (I'll call him EB guy from here) TV commerical guy from a few years ago...similar to John Carmack, but making Carmack look pretty cool) rings it up, goes through the spiel about the extended warranty, I finally find a chance to jump in and stop him, "No, thank you." Rang up $129, I showed him printed $59 BB tag, he looked at it for awhile, checked the register for rebates, he says "that price was after rebates", I say "it didn't say that on the tag". Guy behind me in line to pay happens to work there too, gets nosey, asks EB guy where the tag came from, etc., but he does confirm where the text usually is on the tag that says after $ rebate and it's not here, but also adding "unless it was digitally erased.". Both team up saying how great of a drive it is and how much I like it. I tell employee in line to go ahead and pay, jump out of line, see gen mgr sneaks in room to do an 'interview' (though I never saw anyone else go in there). Employee in line pays. I tell EB guy I want to speak to (I named gen mgr by name) that just went in the room. Instead, EB guy gets another store mgr that was a couple registers down (who's been an a-hole in the past). I explain. He quickly spurts out (not even knowing!) that it was last weeks price. I show him the date (Sunday) on the tag. He looks up price on register, prints rebates. He explains their price was before rebates. I show him tag again and that a friend got it for that price at another store. He goes way over to CS desk to look on computer for 5-10 mins w/ someone else.

Comes back and says he's not allowed to override the price (bull) to that, so I would have to wait on the manager in the interview to do it since he's the gen mgr (meaning he didnt want to). He does some more babbling about how the .97 at the end of the $ is a competitor markdown thing, probably to CC, asks where my friend lived, tells me different markets have different prices. I confirm its CC's add for $59. Tells me he would match add, I say its after rebates. Tells me he can't. Blah Blah. Finally says he'll match $59 after $20 BB MIR rebate (so pay $79). EB guy asks again if I want ext. warranty. Only $20 rebate prints but doesn't require UPC. Had already printed $50 from website. Final after MIR's = $9 + tax. Did I mention I had $81 in store credit from Xmas gift card and returns? Paid cashier $5 from my wallet.
Then went to CC to try to get the TDK there, out stock, then went to Office Depot and got the Pacific Digital (Lite On) 24x PM to Staples/Sams receipt deal (thread is staples PM to Staples/Sams receipt though).

BTW, you should have heard EB guy try to sell the extended warranty to someone in front of me. Literally wining/begging him "But sir..." (in winey voice). I almost vomited.

Can anyone confirm the TDK they got is a Lite On?

Disclaimer - I'm not saying all BB employees are geeks.

It says "SmartBurn" on the front of the box. SmartBurn is Lite-On's proprietary version of burn proofing.

Someone may have pointed this out, but the newer 24x TDKs with "SafeBurn" on front of the box are LiteOn 24x drives instead of the Sany drives they were using as their 24x drives before. On the plus side, the LiteOn drives fare really well in online reviews .
