<< I am determined to get this drive for free... right now, gonna tell the CSM that I want the price match or I want the store number and his name and I will file a formal complaint... >>

You are taking this a little too seriously......:disgust:

If anyone wants it, I have a receipt of initial purhcase (not re-rung) on 1/9/02 at $59.97. I only have no place to serve it.

Someone please e-mail me if you have a server so I can send you the file (about 450 KB JPG file).

I simply took the printed-out tag to the register when I was getting rung up (looked for the most inexperienced cashier, of course) and when it rang up at $129.99 I simply showed him the tag. He checked with two managers and they both said that because it was their initial price "mistake" on Sunday, they have to honor it. Good luck to you all.

(BTW, both the $50 and the $20 rebate printed out.)

i tried going into the store in queens, nyc, armed with two receipt scans and the scanned shelf tag. i found two drives, and took them to the counter (one for my gf, and one for a friend who's computer i am building). they rang up 129.99, so i showed her the scans. she looked at them for a while, and then started looking for a manager to ok the pricematch. she couldnt find a manager, but did find another guy working there who said they wouldnt honor the scans, because they could be regional deals. im gonna try going back there with the pricematch scan, and asking him to look in the national database for the lowest price they have had in the past 30 days. im hoping he wont be able to argue with that.

I don;t have a problem calling TDK and exchanging it for another 24x or 32x drive if mine is defective... I don't see how audio cable might mess things up though..

<< There are reports that this TDK (24B) is a faulty drive and has problems reading CDs if there is an audio cable hooked up. I installed one of these and at the time noticed it came WITHOUT an audio cable. I wonder why...lol
Supposedly the 24x Lite on has the same problem and the 24b TDK is supposed to be made by Lite-on.
Maybe they are dumping all these drives.

:frown:I couldnt get the pricematch to work at BB in JAx Fl..Ishowed them the receipt scan and they said 129.99 and MIRs for 70total...they said it was probably a price error that some store tagged it 59.97 and did not show it as after rebate, so that they probably just honored it for the person who discovered it, but no way could they pm the Kentucky BB the scan was of!!:frown: Its still a great deal, but Im just tired of waiting for rebates! I'm still waiting for over a 100.00 worth of BB rebates now from their Crucial ram and GF3 deals...:|

I think the problem has to do specifically with hooking up to the digital out on the back of the CDRW, not the analog, I could be wrong about that, but I could have sworn I read about that somewhere else. I personally have an audio cable plugged in that connects the TDK 24x drive to my Santa Cruz, and I have no problems whatsoever as far as reading CDs.

Hey, anyone else having problems getting this drive to run consistently in UDMA33 mode? If I set it to UDMA33 mode in WindowsXP, the drive disappears from Device Manager and My Computer, and then I can only see it in Via's IDETool. Shows up in the bios as UDMA33, but won't work in UDMA33 mode in WinXP for me. Runs fine in Multiword DMA mode 2, which is fine for what the drive does, just curious since the manual clearly states that the drive is UDMA33.

Otherwise, the drive kicks boot-ay!

I still haven't opened up my drive, but is that a digital or analog cable?

Well, I bought a drive this morning. My BB just got in a bunch today. It's $129.99 with a $50 & $20 rebate at register.

PROBLEM 1: I would like to confirm that the digital audio cable made my drive useless. It would just sit there with the light constantly on and wouldn't boot at all disconnecting the cable made the drive work perfectly. I connected a analog cable and everything works fine as far as boot up.

PROBLEM 2: The drive won't pop up in WinXP. I'll bet I'm in UDMA33 mode, but how do I switch that for the TDK Drive?

I run a triple boot system and the drive worked fine in Win98SE. However, I haven't tried it in W2K yet.

I don't want the drive if it won't work in XP.

Can someone tell me how to change my DMA setting for the drive in XP, without being able to see it? I have a IWILL KK266+ motherboard. VIA KT133A chipset.

I has an IWill KK266 myself. Seems to be a problem specific to this board.

I had this same exact problem, it wouldn't come up in XP until I went into Device Manager and scanned for new devices. I have a board based on the Via chipset, so I installed the Via miniport IDE driver from www.viahardware.com, and that didn't help, so I went into the IDETool that was included with the miniport driver and set the drive to multiword dma mode 2 and it works fine now. Dunno why it won't show up running in UDMA33 mode, since the drive supports this mode. Multiword DMA mode 2 seems to work fine though, so I guess I'll leave it alone. So if you are using a board based on a Via based chipset, try downloading that miniport IDE driver and installing it and then going into IDETool and set the drive to Multiword DMA mode 2, save, then commit. It'll reboot your system and you should be fine. Hope this helps.

I went To BB in E. Hanover NJ on Monday after reading this thread. The shelf sticker had the 59 price but they were out and I asked for a raincheck. The guy checked the circular (I guess to check it was not limited quantities?) and then gave me the raincheck for 59.97

They got more in today, they honored the raincheck, and the receipt pinted out both MIRs (50+20) .

(I had called ahead and asked they hold one for me - by the time I got there the shelf was empty again.)

Be prepared for many PMs asking for you to scan your receipt .

I got 2 of them yesterday, got about a dozen request for me to scan my receipt, but I couldn't since I don't have a scanner.

Fed up with trying to price adjust with CC. Took forever. First, the saleswoman tries to find the drive on Best Buy's website, then spends 20 minutes trying to reach someone over the phone at BB. Finally, came back saying this now $129.99. This was on Tuesday.

Last night, tried to PM @ CompUSA, but they said Best Buy told them it was only a weekend special and they wouldn't honor it even though I had the scans from 1/07. Staples in my area didn't even carry the drive.

Might as well arm myself with the shelf tag, 2 receipts, and the pricematch scan and get it at BB on the way home. They have to honor the lowest price from their stores within the last 30 days right? Is that how their policy works? Last I saw, there were 10 drives available at BB a couple of days ago.

Of course, I'm wondering why I'm putting in this much effort for $50.

I was able to fix the problem without via's help actually. I had my IDE channels set to force UDMA mode always and had turned off auto detect. You can change the settings by selecting your individual IDE channels in device manager and right click, select properties, select Adavanced Settings tab, and then select auto detect on Device Type and DMA if available on Transfer mode.

That fixed it for me.

Tweaktown.com is where I learned how to change the settings originally.

Thanks for the help though!

I just picked one up at BB in Mt. Laurel, NJ. They had 3 on the shelf when I left. Rang up for $129.99, and the register spit out two rebates $50 + $20. I wasn't planning on going to BB, so I didn't try to Pricematch. But, $59.99 is still a pretty smokin deal

What's the pricematch policy of BB exactly? All I know is that from the day you bought it, if it lower anywhere else or at BB they'd give u the diff. But what's this about they have to honor the lowest price within 30days? What's the real deal on this policy? Can anyone shed some light please? Thanks.
