Burning in a new PC

What is the best way to burn in a new PC?

How, what, for how long?

Is this a PC you're going to be selling? If not, I don't really see the point of trying to make it crash beyond running the apps you'd normally run. If you're selling it, and don't have much time to verify its limitations then yes, I say do a burn in with Sisoft Sandra or some other burn-in application like BurnInTest 2.3

This is a PC that I am keeping for personal use, but I'd like to know its stable at default config before I try and overclock it.

How long have you been running it and what apps have you been running? Has it crashed while you using it? It's doubtful the stabilty tests will find anything useful if this has been up and running for a few weeks. You're always going to run into a few apps that error in a way that will lock up your system or "tweak it". NT based OS's can recover better than their older brothers, but I doubt a hardware problem would suddenly "crop up" if it's been running for a while.

run it using SETI@home or RC5 for a few days straight. Also play some games on it. If it doesn't crash doing that stuff, it's not likely to crash. If you are not overclocking and there are no conflicts, it should be very stable, unless you are using a crappy chipset.

prime, seti, rc5, sisoft, burnintest, 3dmark 2001 bench loop, vulpine loop, etc..

i believe u can loops quake 3 and other benches as well...often, the best way to do is to run a couple simultaneously and tax the crap out of your cpu..

i.e. run seti with 3dmark 2001 looping for the night...

Also burning in wont help you to overclock.
