When I download the free CD live version of Ubuntu linux, it will not fit on a CD.

I have even tried formatting the CD using compression.

How does one go about getting this to fit on a CD ?

how big is it? also you are burning as an image and not just dragging the file onto the cd from within windows, right?

Thats weird. Every Ubuntu cd I have burned has fit on a 700mb CD just fine. How big is the iso? Is it possible meant for a DVD.

What do you mean burning as an image, I don't see any function on their website other than downloading the file ? I am downloading the file from their site and then using drag-and-drop to copy to a CD - using IBM record now software.

Thanks.

Edit: When I download the file it is just a shade larger than the formatted capacity of the CD.

The IBM record now software that I am using formatted a 700 mb Sony CD-RW to 567 mb.

I just formatted one.

just wanted to make sure you were burning it properly.

as for the cd when I tried to download it, it was 639 or so megabytes. that should even fit on a 650 megabyte disc. how much space can your disc hold?

SleepWalker:

The IBM record now program that I am using does not look like the one on your link, mine is version 3.55 and I do not see anything regarding burning an ISO image. Am I missing something ?

Thanks.

Its probably a different version, but you have to make sure you burn it correctly. If you can't find a 'burn image', 'burn iso', or other option like that in your program, then install a program like Nero or Roxio temporarily.

And its interesting how your cd-rw is formatted less than it should be. Try to erase it with Nero. It always worked for me. I can give you instructions with Nero as that's the program I use.

Do you know if Roxio version 7 will do this ? I have version 6 at home and it also formats the CD out to about 567 mb.

Not sure, I've never used Roxio. But if Roxio 6 says the same thing, then there's a chance that you might need another disc.

Sorry, I don't think there is.

I always wonder what does formatting a cdrw do?
I have never formatted a cdrw and everything works fine.
Exactly what does formatting a rewritable cd help with?

I just burnt unbuntu live on a blank cdr and that worked fine.
I've never used linux at all and I must say it looks pretty snazzy. Also everything seemed to work fine. It detected my hardware and the internet worked too.
I was amazed, now I planned to install this on a hd and mess around with it more.

Also I'm amazed it's free!
