Burning Music? Problems at high speeds?

Does burning a music CD at high speed (8x or higher) have any effect on the music being burned. A friend of mine says that burning at anything higher than 4x leads to bad sounding audio when you replay the CD and that some cd players have trouble or won't play discs burned at the higher speeds. Another friend of mine stated that what speed you burn at is irrelevant.

What has been your experiences? What have you heard?

Well, i've heard of people who can't burn at high speeds cuz the quality gets messed up or the cd just doesn't function... i guess an explanation might be poor quality discs or just a poor burner. My experience however is different. I've burned all my cd's at 6x, my top speed, and i use the cheapest cd's money can buy and never had any problems. In fact, only problems i've had with my burn have been software issues with easy cd creator (i use nero now).

I've burned all my software and music CDs at 12x with no problems. For my PSX games though, I don't go above 2x.

If you were talking analog yes preformance can degrade. But since it is digital No. It is not very easy to degrade a one or a zero.
Although I have burned a cd at high speed and had an older Computer would not read it. That has only happened to me once.

Depends mostly on the quality of the disc media you are using. I have some really cheap memorex CDs that get wierd problems if I burn audio over 2x on them. (tracks just suddenly end, skipping, etc). Data works fine at higher speeds however.

And what you guys think is the better speed for burning CDRW, and the betters brands, in general CDR and CDRW).
