burning oil and also coolant?

so it appears that somewhere in my car, the engine oil is leaking. after driving about 3k miles, the dipstick is dry.

also, about every 2 days, I need to refill my car with coolant.

I check my car and I dont see any leakings under the car.

what/where could be the problem?

Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Is there water in the oil? Is the engine overheating?

How many miles and is there any leaks/wet spots on the ground? How does it run? Do you have a temp gauge?
Run the car with the rad. cap off and look for bubbles and also smell the coolant.

It's at 98k miles. It runs fine after I changed the spark plugs

What did the plugs look like? color wise and any oil in the plug holes?


Best case you have a leak and it may be hitting the exhust and the oil could be leaking past the rings/valve stems and burning off.


Worse case bad head gasket/cracked block. Also you said the dipstick was dry. How much oil did it take to get back to the top of the line? And for coolant how much do ytou lose in a day or 2?

all pointers seems to lead to cracked head gasket or head/block.

however, could it be two seperate incidents. One that leads to leaking/burning oil, and another independent one that leads to lost of coolant?

Last time I saw that, it was so obvious the guy had a blown head gasket. At idle, little to nothing out the tail pipe. When the light turned green, and he hit the gas, everyone else at the light HAD to stop for ~30 seconds, until the fog/smoke that billowed out of his car cleared enough for everyone else to safely see the road again!!

Those cars have intake manifold gasket failures. I'm guessing thats it, considering it's burning coolant too.

Those cars have intake manifold gasket failures. I'm guessing thats it, considering it's burning coolant too.

There are oil passages in the intake?
