It's those things you put under your drink to keep your table clean. Which is the only use for a cd if you make a bad copy.

i have no idea, i did not even bother testing burn proof.

maybe i should kick out some sessions of crap while burning with my IDE.

the only time i produced a coaster while doing something on the computer was when i shut off NAV while burning via ctrl-alt-delete.

He's asking if the burnproof buffer under run support works on the Plextor 12x10x32.

It's a technology Sanyo(I think) invtended that basically prevents Buffer Underruns by actually stopping the burning process, and letting the buffer refill.. then resuming. It's a great technology. In the review of it I saw, they were running DVD movies and sh!t while burning, and no coasters.. Mmm..

Does Plextor have a BurnProof drive out?

Eli, you answered the right thing about the whole thing stopping until it can fill itself back up.

The Plextor 12/10/32 A has the Burn Proof technology.

It works beautifully... i've had it only engage burn-proof once, but it basically completely paused teh burn-process and re-engaged as soon as the buffer hit 100%.

Let's put it this way, a friend got one of these drives, and I didn't know about the burn proof.

Anyway, I set it up for him and as a test copied an audio CD. About 30 seconds into the copy it was obvious that the DVD-ROM drive was not keeping up, and I just waited for the buffer to underrun.

Well, all that seemed to happen was that the program's buffer ran out, and burning just seemed to carry on at a lower speed, with the program's buffer running at essentially zero.

The copy was fine. I was rather convinced by that demonstration.

ive just read posts here that people have said they've gotten coasters with this cdrw. but they also mentioned that they were using like 4x media on 10x cdrw. so basically, yeah im thinking something like that would mess up. other then that, im ordering one this week sometime. cant wait to test it out.

I don't think running DVD's while burning is a conclusive test unless you are sure that the buffer was emptied many times during it.

Something intensive would be neccesary to convince me, such as burning a CD and running a HD benchmark at the same time. And you would still need to watch to make sure the buffer was being run dry throughout the test.

4x blank rw's are exactly that, 4x... I don't think RW's are as tolerant about burning at higher speeds than they are rated, unlike certain CDR brands.

Not to fear, high speed Rw's are coming(both Plextor and Ricoh have high speed RW drives out now, and the high speed RW media that came with my plextor was Ricoh Disc).
