Did OP ever figure out what "HOV" means and what kind of vehicle qualifies to drive in the "HOV lane?"

High Occupancy Vehicle

Usually means 2/3+ persons per vehicle.

Usually means "bus."

You could think of it as the "bus lane." The bus isn't occupying the carpool lane. Technically, the cars are occupying the bus lane. Legally, most places allow cars with multiple occupants to occupy the HOV lane.

What buses do you think I'm talking about? Yellow short buses?
ob·tuse
əbˈt(y)o͞os,äb-/Submit
adjective
1. annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand.
"he wondered if the doctor was being deliberately obtuse"
synonyms: stupid, slow-witted, slow, dull-witted, unintelligent, ignorant,

There are plenty of two axle buses that aren't the short, yellow bus you rode to "school".

Not necessarily. A Bus certainly meets the criteria, but it does not mean "Bus" only. Sometimes, especially in inner city cores, there are Bus Lanes which explicitly excludes other vehicles(although sometimes that includes Taxis), but on Highways/Freeways it usually just means any vehicle that meets the minimum Passenger criteria.

I know here in Ontario, buses and trucks are only allowed to use the left lane to pass. They're all governed to 110km/h by law.

Buses are allowed to use the HOV lane and a couple highways here do have dedicated bus lanes.

Rigs are "supposed" to be governed to 105km/h. It's a relatively light fine from what I am told so lots of trucks do not have the governor installed. And then it's only trucks with Ontario plates.

They are not allowed in the passing lane on any 400 series highways where there are 3 or more same direction lanes. As for buses, for some reason they are allowed in the left lane, but they are often going well over the speed limit. I find this very unsafe and wish they would pass the same law for them as transport trucks.

Watching a rig overtake another on the 401 where there are only 2 lanes is annoying to say the least, most barely go 2-3 km/h faster than the one they are passing.

Agreed. Especially just when you think the truck is about to go back into the right lane, the car in the right lanes speeds up a bit.

Awwwwww, me me me me me me! That one is going the speed limit. That other one is going only 2-3km/h faster. I want to go 30km/h faster; everyone should get out of my way. I'm the most important person on the road.

I hate the way Stanley Roberts says "Carrafernahiraypertrol." It just really irritates me.

What country are you from? Everyone knows left lane is generally for passing. There are even signs on freeways telling slower vehicles to keep right.

Buses max speed limit is 55mph. Buses that sit in the left lane usually go 60 mph which still impede faster cars since the speed limit is 65mph for regular cars. And Cars usually go 5 to 10mph over the limit.

Actually, buses are NOT subject to the same 55 mph limit as other commercial vehicles unless it's a school bus...

V C Section 22406 Maximum Speed for Designated Vehicles

Maximum Speed for Designated Vehicles

22406. No person may drive any of the following vehicles on a highway
at a speed in excess of 55 miles per hour:

(a) A motortruck or truck tractor having three or more axles or any motortruck or truck tractor drawing any other vehicle.

(b) A passenger vehicle or bus drawing any other vehicle.

(c) A schoolbus transporting any school pupil.

(d) A farm labor vehicle when transporting passengers.

(e) A vehicle transporting explosives.

(f) A trailer bus, as defined in Section 636.

However...ALL vehicles, regardless of type or size should abide by the "left lane for passing only" rule.

It's nice to know the CHP is actually doing something about the horrible tour and tech bus drivers

They aren't speeding them up or getting them out of the car pool lane, they're slowing them down to the speed limit.

So...your position is that multiple people behind the trucks should be forced to go slower, so that ONE truck can go the speed that he wants to go?
