Buses that drive in the left lane or fast lane

In the SF Bay area, especially on interstate 280 and 19th ave, tour buses love to drive in the fast/left lane and hold up traffic. Even when there are no cars impeding them in them in the other lanes, they will still merge into the left lane.

Shouldn't they have the same courtesy as big rigs and stay out of the left lane unless it's really necessary?

Edit
three axle coach buses that drive in the left lane that are not designated as an HOV lane.

Not by law...and really, that's what counts, not what bothers you.

In the fast lane they don't have to slow down and speed up for ramp traffic. Are you wanting to speed?

This. If any, parts of congestion can be traced due to people not learning to interleave between other cars and merging in a nice manner, people always trying to race ahead of one another.

Also, on entry, people do not know how to match speed as quickly on a ramp as possible or interleave to the right most lane (forms of yielding)...

4 lane freeway. Buses can stay in the 2 center lanes and still avoild ramp traffic. But they insist to sit in the left lane and cause other drivers to drive aggressively or pull to the right to pass.

These are Google or Yahoo or Box.com buses that drive in the carpool lane one the left side ferrying employees to and from work during traffic hours. I don't see anything wrong there.

They may think the farthest left lane is for traffic that's going a long way before getting off the freeway, apparently you think the far left lane should be for passing only. How fast do the buses go in the far left lane? How fast would you go if they weren't in that lane?

According to the California driver handbook you should choose the middle lane for smoothest driving. Is traffic light enough to leave the left lane open for passing only?

The google and yahoo tech buses seem to be more considerate as they usually drive in the center lanes. It's the big tour and airport shuttle buses that hog up the left lane and then merge at the last minute cutting off other cars to make their exits.

In some cities, counties, and states, it is illegal to drive in the left lane. Traffic must remain in the right lane / lanes and the left most is used only for passing.

I know here in Ontario, buses and trucks are only allowed to use the left lane to pass. They're all governed to 110km/h by law.

Buses are allowed to use the HOV lane and a couple highways here do have dedicated bus lanes.

What country are you from? Everyone knows left lane is generally for passing. There are even signs on freeways telling slower vehicles to keep right.

Buses max speed limit is 55mph. Buses that sit in the left lane usually go 60 mph which still impede faster cars since the speed limit is 65mph for regular cars. And Cars usually go 5 to 10mph over the limit.

Buses can use HOV lane here, typically the left lane, during commute hours. But it's inconsiderate for them to hog the left lane in light to moderate traffic.

Not all left lanes are considered HOV but some buses still treat them as such.

High-occupancy vehicles typically go in the HOV lane.

HOV lanes are typically on the left.

What is fail about that? Am I incorrect? Signs on highways would state otherwise, unless there isn't actual laws and signs merely implying such.

Or, are you trying to imply that the passing only lane is fail? How so? Traffic would be unobstructed to pass any slower vehicles on roads, and the lane with the majority of traffic should go smoothly.

I haven't seen this in a high population density area though, as that would be rather silly.

Ontario has dedicated HOV lanes with fixed merge points, on the far left. They're not considered to be the "left lane" by the Ministry of Transportation, and are separated by a double line. So you'll have the HOV lane, Lane 1 (passing lane/left lane), Lane 2 (Middle Lane) and Lane 3 (Right Lane).

Buses almost always use the HOV lanes if they're available, freeing up the left lane.

Of course it's the Far Left. Where else would a Hippy drive?
