He isn't going to take it. Dems would lose a seat in the Senate and he wouldn't want to be hamstrung by the right wing energy policies of the Republicans. He does share some common views with Bush on Social Security and abortion for instance, but why give up a secure place in the Senate for a job at the whim of the President? But trying to reach out to the Dems IS a good sign. We'll see, but I'm not cutting Bush any slack until and unless I see something meaningful. Mere gestures aren't enough.
