administration lawyers are looking for some way to legally limit marriage to heterosexuals.

Just what we need...more freakin' morality laws.

Oh please. "Yes, I am mindful that we're all sinners." That's right Bush, just keep pandering to the religious right so they get you elected for another term.

The government has no business telling the American public who they can and can't marry, gays included.

Odd that no one ever wants to realize that this argument has nothing to do with gay rights or the "sanctity of marriage" or morals, and has everything to do with money, namely trillions of dollars in employer and government benefits.

Either way, such an amendment would cheapen the Constitution.

Now that wouldn't make for an interesting flamewar, now would it?

While this is true, the argument as always couched as the moral one.

At least some companies are sufficiently progressive to offer lifetime partner benefits.

YOU THE MAN, BUSH!!!. I'll be voting for him again....and even though it seems a majority of the people here don't agree just take a look at the poll...the public is with Bush....out of more than 139,000 votes 61% agree with him. I'm looking forward to another term with GWB.

Very good point. And, imho, gender shouldn't matter. It's just a societal/mainstream 'given' that different genders be considered partners.

I'm not. The guy continues to be bad news for the economy. His uncontrolled deficit spending is causing interest rates to rise prematurely, which will stall "the recovery" before it even happens.
1982 economy, here we come!!

edit: the 1982-3 recession was marked by a stagnant economy, high inflation, and interest rates in excess of 18%
As for legislating morality, I'm strongly against. Mind yer own business, ya busybodies! :|

Yeah, that's a good point as well.

Companies could always just cancel benefits entirely.

If gay couples can get benefits, then I want my live in girlfriend to get my benefits.

On second thought, my roommate & his wife have much better insurance than I do I'd like to be on their policy. I'm their bisexual third member, but we can't get married.

Where do you draw the line?

Marriage is a religious instituion, and is defined as between a man and a woman.

However, I also belive that gays should be allowed to have some sort of union, you can't call it a marriage.

So, I agree with Bush to a point.
