Again. With what is he going to evacuate 100,000 people spread all over the city? Go ahead, genius. Give us the plan.

School buses, call greyhound, how are they doing it now? If Florida has no problem evacuating cities then why the complete cluelessness of Louisiana?

100,000 may sound like a lot of people but considering on any given night that superdome could house 70,000 people and it takes them probably 2-4 hours to vacate the city.

Obviously the local plan was either a joke or not enforced enough to get people to move. I was listening to the radio and a guy from the weather channel was filming Bourbon street on Sunday morning and it was a party. That leads me to believe the local evac plan was a joke and not enforced at all. This falls right on the shoulders of the local govt for failing to evacuate the city properly before a storm everybody knew would breach the Levee did.

There is no excuse if planned correctly then implemented why they couldnt have got those 100,000 out even in those short 36 hours before the storm hit landfall.

But I see where this mayors head is, sending cops to Vegas instead of continuing the rescue effort.

It's not GenX87's responsibility to have a plan, it was Nagin, who knew long previously that his evacuation plans were deficient and did nothing to address the problem.

At the local level for failing to enforce a mandatory evacuation? I agree on that side of the equation it does stop there.

You shown a letter from Blanco requesting that Bush declare an emergency in Louisiana on Aug 27 and somehow forgot to note that Bush DID declare an emergency situation in Louisiana on Aug 27.

You fail to ask why Blanco and nagin did not fix an evacuation plan that failed them the year previous during Ivan and was criticized publicly for being ineffective and was noted by both Nagin and Blanco that it was substandard and changes were necessary.

You ignore to address why Nagin and Blanco took so long to declare a mandatory evacuation, and you fail to note that Bush had to urge Blanco to declare such an evacuation.

You fail to address why Nagin did not follow the disaster preparedness/response plan for New Orleans.

You fail to address why Nagin didn't keep better control of his police. Has anyone heard a peep from the police chief, or did Nagin already send him on the trip to Vegas?

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE that could possibly exist for the federal government to take five days to respond to Hurricane Katrina. They did absolutely NOTHING for five days. We all saw it play out live ON TV. People were begging for help day after day after day after day after day that DID NOT ARRIVE.

How many lives could have been saved? The first seventy-two hours are critical. Bush took one hundred and twenty hours before the first bottle of water was sent. FEMA TURNED AWAY AID AND AID WORKERS WHO COULD HAVE EVACUATED THE SICK AND ELDERLY AND PROVIDED WATER AND FOOD FOR OTHERS.

WTF IS THAT???

Yawn. All those issues have been addressed. Contact your congressmen and ask for an independant investigation if you are so confident of where the majority of the blame lies. That's what I'm doing. They can straighten this mess out much better then we can. I'll bet they can even drag it out to the elections next year...ya think??

This assumption on your part doesnt surprise me. you are the same person who think N.Korean nuclear devices were built in under a year and the 9-11 attacks happening on Bush's clock eventhough the majority of the planning occur'd on Clintons watch makes it 100% bush's fault.

This is what happens when you are such a political hack. Your sense of time gets warped to the point where you deny it even exists. Things just magically appear out of thin air like thousands of water bottles and other supplies on day 5. They just magically appeared in NO on that day, no logistics, no planning. Just showed up on a truck out of thin air.

You are making excuses, the simple fact is 100,000 people over a couple of days is feasible using resources within the cities grasps. They have hundreds if no thousands of school bus's. Why not enforce the mandatory evaucation and provide an evacuation route for people who cant afford to drive?

100,000 may sound like a lot of people but considering on any given night that superdome could house 70,000 people and it takes them probably 2-4 hours to vacate the city.

Doesn't New Orleans have a Regional Transportation Authority? (I'll give you a hint - it's called NORTA.)

Guess what? They all have their own cars!

Guess what? Not all of them! In fact, the Superdome only has 5,000 guest parking spots on-site, which, going by industry averages, would top out at 15,000 of those people in the seats.
