And instead GWB steadfastly refuses to even talk to democrats. In a better world a wiser President would talk to congress, make them a equal party in war planning, and we might just get a bipartisan plan for Iraq that has a chance of national support and success.

If the GWB track record even remotely had a glimmer of success, one might understand a President who insists they are right, but given the positively abysmal track record of GWB&co., one can only sadly conclude that their position is simply crazy and divorced from all reality. And ultimately GWB&co. will have to be dope slapped very forcefully.

If the dems had any other plan than to leave, he might listen to them. However, the dems only want to hamstring the military and leave. We need to make sure Iraq can stand on its own before, otherwise we will back again..

Probably because it's the only option available after the cockup he's made of it.

You think America should leave, fine, pass a clean bill calling for our withdrawal.

Bribery, plain and simple. When you threaten to take away dollars from a representative's constitutency, you'd be surprised what you can get them to vote for.

That said, others are right. Republicans have done similar in the past. I find it despicable.

The problem with the current Democrat position is they're trying to straddle the fence, instead of staying on one side or the other. If they feel so strongly, they should cut the funding and end the war. Otherwise, they're just playing petty partisan politics in the middle of a war which is despicable.

Although I agree things could have gone differently in Iraq (not quite sure HOW, but thats another subject) I *do not* think it should ever be the public's decision, or any say-so for that matter, whether or not we go to war.

But do you think we should be mislead or lied to about it? Keep in mind, I'm not asking if we were (I think it's obvious you don't think we were), all I'm asking is do you think we should be.

The "American People" elect representatives to be competent in this area. Suggesting these stewards of public trust were "misled" is ludicrous. Either they were negligent in their duties or had other priorities, either way they failed. That blame rests solely with them, not with those you'd like to place the blame with.

"Should be"? No. However, obviously Bush withheld info from congress about the situation in Iraq, but I also think it wouldnt have changed anything about their decision to fund the war. Thats a point that can be debated all day long with no resolution, since we cant speak for our congress.

But

I think this whole movement of the public demading so much info from congress regarding the war is actually harmful. I believe all we need to know is the readers digest version. People seem to forget our enemies watch CNN also.

Which explains why people like Hillary and the Washington Post are triping over themselves to point that out every change they get...

Oh I forgot, the WaPo says the war was the right thing to do and Hillary refuses to call her vote a 'mistake.'

They also air their propaganda tapes on CNN. A natural fit.

You make a good point. Good luck getting the crowd here to see it.

I wonder how this country maintains civil order with all this in-fighting. That really is a miracle, or testament to our form of government.

His very first words are a lie. No surprise there, really.

"I like peanuts as much as the next guy,'' President Bush said today, "but I believe the security of our troops should come before the security of our peanut crop.''

Yes, the Dems added pork to the bill, but they didn't add it to the exclusion of the money that will fund the troops. That money is (obviously) right in the bill and all W has to do is sign it.

Sometimes, it's difficult to believe the kind of nonsense coming out of his mouth.

Yeah, we should have self-destructed back when the "R" led congress was having all the midnight votes.

Truth hurts, doesn't it.

When the shoe was on the other foot the righties were fond of saying "majority rules". Maybe the "party of no ideas" is smarter then people gave them credit for?

In any case, Bush will get the money he wants to give the Iraq Civil War one last effort. All he has to do is "zign ze papers".

As usual jackalas has the wrong explanation when he says---Those damn dirty neo-cons eh? Yeah, pile it on.

You neo-cons were in charge for six long years----and got fired by the American people because you were long on promises and totally short on results.

And instead of doing the proper thing----blaming your stinking thinking as the reason you failed----you pretend you are still in charge.---and refuse to question your assumptions.

And then go totally bat sh!t bonkers when congress says either alter your behavior or I'll cut your allowance.

What was that old song--something like----She will have fun fun fun till daddy takes her T-bird away.

Or to put it to you in words you can maybe understand---The American people trusted the neocons to act responsibly---they did not---and now we are just taking the car keys away.
You seem to think they are being vindictive---when the only vindictiveness is coming from the immature neo-cons who refuse to give the keys back to the true owner of the car---the American people.---who must now pay for the damage your reckless driving caused.

I like how all the democrats saying that the funding bill does not raise our taxes are the same democrats that said republicans were cutting social security in the 90's. I.e. decreasing the rate that funding increases = cuts, but repealing tax cuts := tax increase to them. Ah well.

So in order to get ALL the Democrats onboard they through around some money, bribery basicly.

The fact that Republicans may have done similar in the past does not excuse the Democrats from doing it this time.

The fact is that this is how things have worked in DC for many many years.

You expect the new legislative majority to change how the capitol gets things done while also in the middle of a war?

I know you are smarter then calling this "bribery".

I don't think anyone disagreed that it would be nice if Washington wasn't run on "pork" projects. That type of change though isn't going to be overnight.
