Of course he "may" use a nuclear weapon on Iraq. Why would a President rule out unilaterally any options at his disposal? Of course, the likelihood of him giving the go ahead is essentially nil.

The only reasonable case i see for Bush authorizing a nuclear strike is if Saddam fires up significant amounts of chemical/bio weapons. Longstanding US policy is that usage of WMD against us or allies would result in a nuclear strike in return.

I'm happy you are keeping up on current events. Nukes have always been an option. It seems the only option not being considered is diplomacy.

Of course, the diplomacy that comes from the middle east, specifically Iraq, is laughable at best. But we are judging that based on our cultural understandings, and not theirs.

I will be so thankful when this saber rattling is over, and either we have peace, or we blow Saddam to kingdom come.

Heh, I think Saddam is smart enough to know he has better chance of survival running away into exile, rather than attacking US troops with chemical weapon or go into a full scale war. Dessert Storm has teach him a lesson or two. Thats simply suicide at best.

Judging from what has been said so far i wouldn't be surprised if Bush wanted to use nukes if Saddam won't show evidence that he will not harm any american soldiers...

You're confusing "want" with "will." I have no doubt that Bush wouldn't mind the idea of dropping a small-yield device right on Saddam's noggin, but i'm sure that pleasant thought lasts about 1/1000th of a second before reality sets in.

It's a contigency plan. The US has a contingency plan on every possible scenario they can come up with up to and including Canada firing up their tank and coming south.

The possibility of it being implenmented is about the same as Saddam being nominated and making Sainthood in the Catholic Church.

A. Expose our troops to radiation, since they are going to be occupying Iraq.
B. Send a message to all signatories of the non-proliferation treaty that US will use a nuke on a non-nuclear state.
C. Cause US to lose support in both the WOT and nuclear non-proliferation.
D. Give justification to terrorists to use nukes on US. (Not like they are waiting for that, but still)
E. Send message to Russia, China, etc that using nuclear weapons not in response to a nuclear attack is legit.
And so on.

We know Bush won't do it but I wonder if Sharon has enough restraint if Israel is hit by dozens of WMD? If Israel attack Iraq, then its probably the end of any peaceful hope in the Arabian Peninsula. All the radical moslem will have their long awaited excuse to push for the destruction of Israel, in the name of self-defense/preservation.

DU shells have almost nothing to do with Nuclear weapons. They are just very dense and are useful for piercing armor. Why we would use them around Baghdad unless it was on a tank is not clear to me.
