It is precisely because the president does not appoint the pope that makes this a terrific joke. Stalin joked about the lack of "divisions" that the pope controls. Trust me, Rumsfeld won't go near a job without "divisions". All he would get would be a company of Swiss mercs that dress in girlieman outfits.

The concept of Bush appointing Rumsfeld as pope is and endless source of humorous invention. Don't worry, Rumsfeld would never take position that doesn't allow him to spend unlimited fortunes on weapons systems that will never work.

In order to maintain the legacy of and the following of the previous pope, Rumsfeld would have to denounce the invasion of Iraq. 'Like that's ever going to happen!

seeing as he likes to appoint criminals to important positions of power, I think Martha Stewart would be a shoe in

US presidents should be able to speak in complete sentences, and when they accidentally get a sentence out in one piece the verb tense between vowels should agree.

US presidents should apoint intelligent and honest people to positions of power, not their corrupt buddies and business partners.

The fact you responded puts the joke on you

Because the moderators have been attempting to steer people away from immaturity and attempts at political humor on this board...I believe the guidelines are to post an article wit your own commentary, or present a topic that deserves some level of debate or discussion. This topic does neither.

It was particularly funny and very American. When humor directed at the president and his appointees is no longer tolerated, this will no longer be America.
Dissenting opinion is certainly American, and I have no problem with people attacking the President for his policies or procedures. However, last time I checked this was a Politics and News board...not a political humor board...the problem with political humor is that it can quickly deteriorate into people taking potshots at each other, deviating entirely from any form of discussion.

If I want to experience humorous political satire, I either read the Onion or watch South Park.

What thread besides the 'Names of the Dead' thread doesn't turn into people taking potshots at each other?

I'm frankly surprised by some of the responses here. So defensive. And all over a fabricated story from "AFN" (April Fools' News).

I guess being forced to constantly defend the indefensible does that to people.

And all over an obviously fabricated story. The same people aren't this worked up over Bush's fabricated WMD story. And just look at the consequences of that fantasy.

As an April Fools' Day joke I didn't think it was too bad. And after all, it's not as though I came up with a completely unbelievable headline like, "Bush appoints Wolfowitz to head World Bank".

This would not look good on his resume for the papacy which rules another organization with a shrinking employee base.
.

You are aware that the number of Catholics in the world is over 10 times the size of the United State's population, and that the Catholic Church is the longest standing and perhaps the most powerful, instutition in the history of the world, right?

US presidents don't attack non-threatening nations. US presidents don't condone torture.

The fact that US presidents don't name the Pope is the point.

Precisely why this joke makes no sense; Bush didn't do either of the three

The joke makes great sense, and I LAMFAO at it.

The sad part is, Bush has done two out of three. This just isn't the thread to rehash all the documentation you can find all over this forum.

And not to be too picky, either of anything implies only two things. Of course, I guess you could break it down into the two things Bush has done and the one he can't.

OTOH, so what? The joke's still funny.

No, I'm not a walking encyclopedia, I just know of a nifty little site called Google, unlike some people. And I don't insult others when I can't support my position with facts which can be found from a .67 second (according to google) search.

And the fact that you would bring male sexual organs in out of the blue lead me to believe that you are either:

1. Homosexual and talking about the death of one of the world's most respected people and Times "Man of the Year 1993" makes you horny to the point of obsessing over dicks

or

2. Depressed about having a small penis

I made no comment about dicks at all, you're the one that brought it up. Hell, go use the site called Google I just told you about and you'll see that psycologists agree with me.

EDIT: Actually, you're right, my IQ is 5x the size of my dick. Considering my IQ is 130ish on most tests, do the math which I guess you're incapable of doing since you insinuated that I have a high iq and small dick, and my dick comes out to be precisely 26.4 inches.

Thanks for the compliment.

Point of information: There are just over a billion Roman Catholics on Earth last time I checked. There are just under 300,000,000 Americans. About three to one ratio, not ten to one.

EDIT

A little too late.

Not a particularly funny one...yet another worthless and cheap shot at the President, which for one reason or another, is excused on this forum.

Why wouldn't it be?

I think this comment may somehow be related to inexcusably uneven moderation.

Who are the employees of the Catholic Church? Would that be the priesthood? Yes, it would be. The Catholic Church is not doing well in attracting new employees worldwide. This is much the same dilema that Rumsfeld finds himself as cardinal of war.

You point out that the Catholic Church is the most powerful organization of its type. Rumsfeld's Pentagon can make the same claim. Both have vast stores of unfilled job application forms.

Whether the Catholic Church is the most powerful institution is debatable, but it is certainly not the longest standing. There are many other organized religions around the oldest being Hinduism which is practiced by more than a billion people. The origins have been traced back to 6000 - 3000 BC.

BTW this search took only .017 seconds on Google

If I smile at an April fool day joke on the papacy it does not make me respect the Pope any less. You need to keep the right perspective and not get your panties in a bunch over what is clearly an irreverent joke.

Of course you do.
