I think that The networks are afraid to say it, but what is intresting, is that with a close election, we may see the end of the Electoral College, which will be effectively the end of the modern Two Party System.
The scenario goes as such. Bush or Gore wins the popular vote, but looses the electoral vote. This will make the people feel that there vote doesn't matter any more, and creates a push to get rid of the electoral college. With out the electoral college, there is no longer a need for a 50% majority, and hence the doors would be opened to more than two parties. Now, I will admit, it is An American Standard to have partisian leanings, and it will probably be many years before we will rid our selves of it, with out the need for such a system, and will eventually fade away.
So, who ever wins, I hope its close. If I could vote, I would vote Browne, simply because I refuse to choose the "lesser of two evils" as I refuse to vote for the overly liberal Nader. But I can't, so I sit here and watch the votes total up, hoping for reform in the electoral system by the time I begin my political career.
