It's not.

How old are you 2, 12?? We have some of the lowwest taxs in the WORLD!!! We have some of the cheapest gas, etc.....

How do you think we pay for roads, military, etc.....

35% is not bad. Oh no I only took home 600K and not 800K.... WWAAAAAA

Say that when you have to write the check for $270,000, you will be singing a different tune.

If I had that much money I sure as hell wouldn't cry about taxes.

Say you made $104,000 per year. At what point would YOU start complaining?

$20,000
$30,000
$40,000
$50,000

Now, say the government didnt take the taxes from your paycheck, and you had to properly budget your money so you could write a check for the whole amount on April 15. Would that make a difference?

At the $40,000 level, you would have to set back $770 out of $2000 every week, just to cover your federal tax bill.

Of course, the guy who makes $30,000 a year, says, oh hell that would be easy, who couldnt live on $1200 a week.

Could you live on 1200 a week?

Yes, I could live on $1200 a week. I could live better on $1600 a week.
20 years ago I thought $20 an hour was all the freekin money in the world, and if I ever reached that pinnacle, I would never have money problems again.

20 years later $20 an hour barely gets you a decent house to live.

i'm 22, I guess i'm really dont care what happens to the people that make a lot of money

And that pretty much sums up your argument. I can debate this with you pretty much all night, but the real problem is that you've never paid taxes at these levels (let met guess, you got a rebate this year?), so you can just point and do the liberal 'rich people are evil and deserve it' chant.

how old are you??

34.

I'd like to know if you came from money or did you work your way up -bill. (meaing did you pay for school/rent/house/car when growing up by yourself?)

The pres used to get paid $200,000 a year but I think he got a raise recently (when clinton was still in office) to like $400,000

I love it. Actually, I enjoy working. I do like paying taxes too, oddly enough. I don't like to be FORCED to pay it, but I normally just pay as much as I can and I don't care much for tax refund.

edit: I work two full times jobs.

HA!, just because you didn't get a rebate doent mean crap.

I agree, it's just that most people who comment on how taxes are just fine and fair don't get the fun of writing 5 and 6 figure checks out to our federal government. They get a couple hundred bucks back since they gave the government an interest free loan and don't know what the big deal is

You dont even know me

I do know that your 22 and not paying at the higher rates (based on your own post) and don't care about those that do (your quote, not mine). True, your probably a nice guy, but I don't get the impression you've had enough 'life experience' to really comment on fair rates for our federal tax system

someone who takes home close to a mil or half a mil a year shouldn't be bitching about anything

What is the cutoff amount where bitching is allowed?

I'd like to know if you came from money or did you work your way up -bill. (meaing did you pay for school/rent/house/car when growing up by yourself?)

Define 'growing up'. Did I pay for school and housing when I was 10? No. Did my parents buy me a car when I turned 16, no. I had to save up and get my own.

Smartest comment so far in this thread. Refunds just mean you gave the government an interest free loan. I'm sure you have better things to do with your own money than that!

I make enough to buy cool toys. I don't spend a lot since I don't see the point of life to make money as an end. It's nice to have money, but not to keep harping on it. I just normally donate a lot of money to my local church. My point is, trust me, it sucks paying Uncle Sam, whether 50% or 1%. Say you made $20,000 before taxes, paying even $250 in tax sucks. That isn't even 35%, but that is the cost of a couple of harddrives.

But yes, it is nice working when you would do it for free. It's like a hobby, but I'm paid to do it...lol...

My take is everyone should be happy with what they contribute toward society. No one should be obligated to bear the brunt. I guess I'm an idealist..lol...but hey, I try to do my part in society.

(1) ok. i agree that it wouldn't be fun writing out 5-6 figure checks to the feds. But, i'm sure if your writting out those types of checks your not sitting to bad off in life money

wise. That what i'm getting at really, i mean i understand that its a lot of money no matter how much you make but i think the problem is that we need to cut taxes where

they will be felt the most and i thing thats the middle class. Where it gets tricky is that people just look at how much rich people make not what their taxes are.

---------

(2) i agree again. But i do believe that i have much more experience that others my age. My grandparents owned a business and didn't make a huge amount but did

always comment on all the taxes and such that they got slapped with. being as i am very close to them.

Now i look at my grandparents and they are retired eairly and have been sitting good for sometime now. Proving that even tho they had the higher taxes they turned out fine.

----------

(3) no bitching if you can afford an above-standard lifestyle. "just be grateful" ----- i know it trendy but really you could of been born in iraq and raking dirt at 34.

----------

(4) i'm just getting at did you pay for college or someone / something else did?

thats a horrible attitude. I should be "grateful" that i am forced to give somebody else large amounts of money that I worked my ass off for?

Ah yes, another "tax thread" filled with people who are in favor of taxing the hell out of the rich because the assumption is that they (for some reason) don't deserve the fruits of their work. Despite the fact that 10% of 3 million is still 100 times 10% of $30 thousand, the rich in the US have a much higher tax percentage. So they "deserve" their money any less than the rest of us? No, but it's ok to take more from them because they have a lot and can stand to part with a few bucks. It's funny, I've tried talking with people about a flat tax rate and they get all pissed off that the rich people shouldn't pay less taxes than they do. Like they don't understand that everyone is entitled to the results of their work, and that even a flat tax percent takes many times the amount of money from rich people.

Look, they make more than you, get over it and stop acting like you are being persecuted or something.

Where do you live? ...perhaps the United States, the greatest place to live? How did that come to be? Suggest another way to pay for the expenditures of the government that made this country a safe and fruitful place to live.

All of you who bitch and moan about taxes need to focus on government spending. Democrats and Republicans are all the same. The only difference is where the money's spent.

I'm all about cutting the fat. Don't give tax cuts until spending is cut first!

Right, it's the percentages that need to be looked at, not the total amount paid. But what do you consider 'middle-class'. Based on the current tax structure, I'd put Bush in that category. Get over 7 figures a year and other ways of reducing the overall tax liability (percentage wise) start becoming available. From 100k to 1000k there are few real ways to reduce that load, and that group carries more than their fair sure of the burden (IMHO).

(4) i'm just getting at did you pay for college or someone / something else did?

Actually, I 'started' college after HS but found it really wasn't for me. Started working instead.

I was questioning his notion that not only is it OK to fleece the "rich" people because they are better at earning a living than he is, they should be happy about it too.

here's a solution

Tax everyone at 35% the rich, the poor, industries....everyone

It would be completely fair and would solve our debt problem pretty quickly I would think.

Fvck no. I want a flat tax that is way lower. I had to PAY this year AGAIN. I get taxed almost 38%. Screw that. People say that it should be taxed even more. No way. I cannot help it that you feel you can take my money because you deserve it more.

Some of the comments are aimed at Bob. Obviously at 22 he still has a lot to learn even though I am younger than he is. A flat percentage tax NOT based on income is the most fair tax you can get. Just because someone earns more than another person doesn't mean they should be taxed more. This is not a socialist country...
