He's actually getting Biblical now. "It's time to love your neighbor like you love yourself".

Why didn't he?

It is so glaringly apparent that this man has not only no idea what to do but no idea what to say either. They are congratulating and clapping for each other on day five of a national tragedy and embarassment that they are all responsible for. His entourage is clapping for him. Why didn't Bush answer any questions?

What a disgrace.

He critisized his administration earlier today saying that the response was "unacceptable" and just now said that the governors of those states were doing a fantastic job.

Yep. But what else can we expect from Democrats? They were beaten so soundly in the 2004 election they still haven't recovered.

Rather then bitch and whine, I challenge everyone throwing criticisms at the relief effort to present their plan for how they would have handled this situation had they been in charge.

Oh, come on. Slick Willy would have gotten off Monica long enough to make a few phone calls

Please document what requests for aid mayor Nagin made for the staging of relief efforts in the days prior to Katrina. Quite easy to point fingers, lay blame, and complain about the slow flow of relief to your city after the fact...but the only way to avoid disaster is through adequate planning prior to handle as many contingencies as feasibly possible.

Of course the old "blame game" is starting...

Bill Schneider just brought up a good point on CNN. Bush said the Gulf Coast looks like it was destroyed by some kind of weapon. What if it was a weapon instead of a storm? Is this the response we can expect?

A woman, Ms. Walters, is on the phone now from the convention center. Still NO HELP. People are dying. A woman gave birth last night without any medical assistance. The baby didn't make it. Eight bodies now and it's getting worse every hour.

Keep congratulating each other and clapping for the cameras you absolute putrid failures. BRAVO!

Can someone explain to me how GWB can say "the response is unacceptable" and then say the FEMA director is doing a "great job" I believe Brownie is in charge the response.

Having this meeting on TV is causing these politicians to spend to much time kissing each others ass and not enough time on the problem.

Mayor Nagin has issued another "SOS NIGHT OF HELL". Still no troops. People are holding on by a thread. 10,000 people were evacuated yesterday but he estimates that 50,000 are still on rooftops and in shelters. "Will we survive another night?"

Why in God's name would anyone have to survive this many nights in a disaster zone in the United States of America?

It's called a photo op. Americans are so fvcking stupid that a picture of Bush smiling and glad handing the people who along with him HAVE FAILED will over ride the pictures of people stranded and dying in New Orleans.

Heh well the Soviets detonated a 60 Megaton nuke in Siberia in 1961 and it laid total devastion out to 35 km. Total devastation was right aroun 500 sq miles.

So unless we have terrorist detonating 180 of the biggest nuclear weapons known to man in the same area, equdistant from each other. There are no weapons that can do this kind of damage.

It should also fascinate you to understand the sheer amount of energy this storm had.

Hey dumbass - Nancy Pelosi pushed for a special session of congress to meet last night to address and pass releif legislation.
At first the GOP balked and said 'No' - then recanted and agreed to rush in. It was passed to provide 10.5 Billion with no dissention.

10.5 Billion is 21 days of aid to the entire affected Gulf Coast, 3 weeks . . . and then that's gone.

Executive order COULD have been invoked on Friday, or Saturday, or Sunday, then came Monday, still no Executive Order . . .
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday the Democrats forced a session that the GOP resisted.

Again . . . there's one man on this planet that COULD have invoked Executive order any time last week.
Pity he needed to take another vacation, it's hard work. Anyone hava a copy of 'My Pet Goat' ?

Dramamine is your friend. Oops! You need to take it before the nausea attack.

I could have sworn that the State of Louisianna was declared an official "state of disaster" before Katrina hit the coast. That is done to enable the Federal agencies to mobilize ahead of the storm.

There doesn't seem to be much to show for that.

Not a penny of the $10 billion will be spent on the Gulf for weeks. Bush declared a federal emergency in advance of the hurricane, freeing all disaster resources of the federal government.

So what the hell is the problem? Why is the response so inadequate?

It is impossible to mount an adequate rescue and assistance response to a disaster of this complexity and magnitude, spanning well more than one hundred miles square, with only three to four days advanced notice. We are seeing the best response to a disaster of this scale that could be mustered on such short notice. As with every other serious hurricane we've ever had, it takes up to one full week AFTER the hurricane hits to bring all available resources to bear. Its just that the need this time is greater than we've ever seen it, making the best response look grossly inadequate.

If we had a few weeks advanced notice like Israel in its airlift of 40,000 people, the response would be hugely better. Apparently people believe we have a Majic Crystal Ball that told state and federal officials to start mounting a response to Katrina even before it existed. An adequate response to this kind of disaster cannot be mounted in four days. Its never been done, anywhere, and never will be.
