What any sensible person sitting on over 500 buses would have done with a CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE bearing down on his city. Load the people up and move out!

Suppose they were filled and ready to go, suppose you could find enough drivers. Suppose you could even get people that didn't want to leave their homes in the buses.

Where we heading? Who's paying for their motel rooms, food, medical, etc?

And how does good old Mayor Nagin explain his city's failure to review (and update) the Hurricane plans for over 5 years? Or the fact that he had over 500 buses at his disposal which could have been used to get people out of NO. Now they're sitting under 10 feet or so of water.
Ah...the ol' magical bus story again.

Don't you just love people who don't bother to read all the threads, get the info for themselves, etc.. They just see something that fits the way they want it to and go with it.

LOL, I have a mental image in my head:

<OK Mister, put the beer down and back away from the keyboard, nice and slow. Keep your hands where we can see them>

No supposing. They were there and ready to go.

The latter part of your question is answered by a DISASTER PLAN which Mayor Nagin didn't bother to evaluate. The city had no plan for a disaster and it showed.

I've also forgotten about other options - such as Amtrak - which should have been part of Nagin's grand plan.

That is why you design a DISASTER PLAN before the "big one" hits. Capeche?

Doh!! You criticize Nagin for a bad plan and you don't have a better suggestion?? He has 550 buses with 55,000 people in them. Where we going, for how long, and who's footing the bill?

Do you even read the replies or just sputter nonsense?

That is the purpose of a disaster plan. It should have been designed with where, when, who. It wasn't.

Don't be so nieve. Nagin had plenty of warning that a Category 4 or 5 Hurricane was heading straight for New Orleans.

The Administration had a Disaster plan, and like all their other plans it worked . . . we've got a Disaster.

What ? You take exception with my siding with the Bush Administration and the plan that they revealed for the world to see ?

Quite the opposite. You've yet to answer my questions...

You haven't asked a question except why Nagin didn't bus the people out. I've asked you some questions to determine just how he could have done that, but you seem to have no idea.

Go figure.

Even the administration itself has admitted to some blame. Many Republicans admit the admin fvcked up. Only partisan fools argue the admin didn't fvck up.
Clinton: Government 'failed' people
Former President Bill Clinton on Monday said the government "failed" the thousands of people who lived in coastal communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and said a federal investigation was warranted in due time.
"Our government failed those people in the beginning, and I take it now there is no dispute about it," Clinton told CNN. "One hundred percent of the people recognize that -- that it was a failure."
No, Bill, there are still a few holdouts on realizing the government failed the country. They failed us.

Please don't attempt foreign languages. Work on your English first before you start butchering Italian, etc.

Also, the buses you people keep bringing up had wheels, gas, etc. but not drivers. Everyone evacuated and left the passengers only.

Just a small point you apologists seem to overlook.

Baloney. If the Mayor had gotten his ass in gear a few days earlier the drivers would have gotten a lot of people out of town. It seems the people who left are law enforcement. Reports now suggest 500 or so officers left town before the storm hit. Now THAT is pathetic.

And just how was the mayor supposed to stop the officers from leaving town?

Again, the whole mess was piss poor planning from the top to the bottom. Bush may have not done anything personally wrong, but the perception of being slow to the scene will hurt his ratings, which he may not care, but the GOP congress does.

The mayor and governor may not have had a good plan or have followed it.

FEMA seems to have been slow and confused during the whole ordeal.

I'm just happy that those people are staring to get the care that they deserve. As DonVito said...people first, politics later.

D00D

It's capisci

Understand?

And back to those buses. Other than the lack of drivers, the very same scenario that played out in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast was well known to government in a 2002 report that laid it out in detail almost to the letter.

The Bush administration knew damn well they needed an immediate overwhelming response but Bush's buddie Allbaugh gave the biggest disaster management job in the country to his college roommate buddie although Brown had NO EXPERIENCE in disaster management.

That's criminal cronyism and some heads better roll or next time, Pabster, it could be you. Or me. Or any of us.

WTFU. Stop making excuses for these criminals.

Go back and fix it. C_A_P_I_S_C_I

Understand?

And the very idea that Amtrak, the railroad Bush is railroading out of business, would be capable of handling an evacuation of this size is so funny that my DOGS are still laughing at it.

Amtrak is lucky to be able to stay on schedule, no less change schedule and inundate New Orleans with rescue trains. You people are getting so fvcking ridiculous I wonder if you're keeping a straight face yourselves.
