As long as he is working, I don't care where he is.

He probably has a nice little VPN setup back to the office (White House) so he can do his work from home. Hell, I do it all the time. ;-)

To me it's no big deal. I kind of like the idea of a president roaming around the country some, although I'm ignorant to the logistical and cost issues.

For Bush, if staying at his ranch helps him and doesn't hinder government, who cares?

How is it going around the country if he keeps going to the same place?

But yeah, the latter half of that sentence is something I wonder. It can't be cheap to provide the security whenever he decides to move around.

And, Zendari, Kerry is not, nor will he ever be president; get over it and think up a new argument. And the only people who should be concerned about his voting record are the people of Massachusetts.

Hey, give the guy a break. While he might be on vacation, his crack staff is hard at work doing the things that need to be done...leaking classified information to reporters, appearing 12,000 times per day on Fox News, attempting to teach the press secretary how to NOT look like someone just punched him in the junk, and trying to jimmy open the door to the secret "plans to end quagmire wars" room (Nixon had the same problem). It's hard work, and the wheels don't stop turning just because Bush isn't there...although the wheels are kind of small and wobbly. But you better believe they keep spinning.

Edit: Seriously though, I don't think it matters where the President is if he's running the country. While some might argue that Bush isn't doing a very good job of that, would it make a difference if he WAS at the White House?

This is only the 50th trip to Crawford. This does not include trips to Kennebunkport and Camp David. Why even have a White House? I don't feel that the job of the POTUS should be a telecommuting job. Can you imaging the outrage if Clinton had taken this many vacations? Does the phrase flies on sh!t mean anything to you?

Forget the White House, with Monica around nobody could get him out of his bedroom.

And no, I don't think there would be much outrage. Not from the right anyway.

As I recall, all the "bad" acts took place in the Oval Office while Clinton was working. If anyone kept Clinton away from work, it was the Repubs with their impeachment.
So Clinton had two options:

1) Take a vacation with Hillary, or

2) Stay working at the Oval Office while having fun with his favorite intern.

Which option would you choose?

Well, he did keep his hands free - most of the time.....

The bold part wasn't referring to Bush specifically (although I understand he's going to drop by 7 or so states while on vacation). I was just saying I kinda like the idea of a prez roaming... it seems like something a prez should do.

As a general statement, I think it is a reasonable question asked reasonably.

There is no baiting or grandstanding going on. What Kerry did doenst matter because Kerry isnt president. It isn't even about Bush. It is about the ability of A President to function effectively when on vacation, and how taking many affect his ability to govern.

Least that's how I read it.

This in the past week alone. You seem to have a hard time trying to make a point without bashing Libs, Libbies, Liberals, Leftists, etc. etc. etc.

Do a search and see how many times I have even mentioned the mans name in the last 90 days. AFAIAC, his time is winding down and I only mention him when he does something really dumb like take his 50th vacation.

I don't think you have any clue how often you generalize all Liberals. I can do a search and give you an exact count but I do have to get some sleep eventually. Not worth my time, nor are you.

Interesting statistics but totally irrelevant. Bush can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants; vacation, use cocaine, invade countries, authorize mass-murder, steal billions, rape the enviroment, anything he wants and there is nothing ANYBODY can do about it. The president is a madman. Thank you.

What part of don't throw stones are you having the most trouble with? You made an claim that I can disprove. In kind, I made a claim I can easily prove. Get over it and move on to your next hate filled post.

Edit: And you stupid little crack smoking comments when you are proven wrong are comical. What was that about 10 year olds? You are dismissed. It amazes me that you have evaded the ban stick for as long as you have.

It didn't bother the left when Kerry literally took a year off from voting in the Senate.

Kerry's not the president.

A powerful Senator doesn't have the responsibility to..wait for it...show up in the Senate once in a while?

You have an interesting definition of work btw.

If memory serves you were a junior in high school during Kerry's campaign, and ineligible to vote in the 2004 election, so you'll forgive me if I regard your opinion on that subject as inconsequential (as well as, more to the point, irrelevant to this discussion).

Any sitting congressman or governor who is running for another office, particularly President, will have to make sacrifices in terms of his duties (unless, like Bob Dole, he is at the end of his career, and willing to retire in order to run). Them's the breaks, and if you have a plausible alternative I'd be interested to hear it.

As for the topic at hand, it seems to me President Bush's extraordinary amount of vacation is essentially a continuation of the lazy way he's led virtually his entire adult life. Apparently that's OK with Americans at large (though I find it a little stunning he is about to take more vacation than the prior record-holder, Reagan, _AFTER_ONLY_4_1/2_YEARS_). It seems to me he is at best an ineffectual President, and at worst a truly dreadful leader, so I say God bless him and his vacation-record-breaking ways.

I'm not sure what makes Kerry a powerful senator. His only big claims to fame are his protests after his service in the Navy and an unsuccessful run for the Presidency.

I mean, how often do you see him in the news? Not very much.

How many big things do you see him doing? Not many.

Let's be truthful here guys. There is not much going on in the Bush's head, let alone the White House. The people in charge are behind the scenes. The PNAC strategists, the RNC, the big money industries, etc. Decisions that Bush "makes" have been debated and discussed by dozens of experts and advisors before Bush ever needs to think about it. The biggest Yes-Man in the US is the President himself.

Bush knows it. We know it. He doesn't need to be in Washington, working nights and weekends, when he can pay some of the top political minds in the world to do the work for him.

the fact is, the president is never really on vacation, even when not in the white house itself.

THANK YOU!!

That is right on..

No, it's not. Thank YOU. These trips are footed by you and I. If you are OK with it, please lobby your congressman to increase your taxes so you can continue to foot the bill.

Get over it dude, we pay for everything when ANY president travels, ANYWHERE.

Just contacted McCain and told him to raise my taxes as well.

The President's travel expenses are virtually zero compared to the other government spending he has increased.

In addition, in the era of modern technology, you don't have to be at your office to work! Especially when you're a guy who mostly has meetings, hands down orders, receives advice, and doesn't have a lot of hands on work to do.

Oh, please. I can work from home, too, if I choose. That doesn't mean that I can meet with clients or my colleagues and be as effective, or as devoted, as I could if I were in the office. The fact is that time spent in your office is usually more productive than spent at home, and just saying "well, he can work from home in this age of technology" doesn't make that fact go away.

If Clinton had taken this many vacations the Bush apologists would be all over him raising a stink about his lack of commitment to America and to his job. Now they're just all over Bush like, well, Monica was with Clinton. Except they won't raise a stink about the stains on their clothing.

I think you're misunderstanding how blurred the line is between "Office" and "Home" for a President. This isn't the 1940s. It's not like he's hanging out on the ranch with one phone and ignoring everyone while he watches football.

He's got a full staff, and the ability to communicate with anyone, anywhere.

I don't expect any President to spend most of their time at the White House. That is just an antiquated concept. If a President feels more comfortable working somewhere other than the White House, then more power to them.

I think he should take more vacations!

Isn't his Ranch in Texas the "Western White House"? All Presidents secondary residences are set up so they can do their jobs when away from D.C.

Despite all the ignorance the liberals will expose in their group on this one, it isn't a vacation when you carry a classified communications center with you!
