Does a president have to stay at the White House to be effective? Should he out of duty? Does it matter?

Read Here

To me it's no big deal. I kind of like the idea of a president roaming around the country some, although I'm ignorant to the logistical and cost issues.

For Bush, if staying at his ranch helps him and doesn't hinder government, who cares?

Maybe if he was in the White House more often, the country wouldn't be heading down-hill so fast...then again, the less work he does, the less damage he does to the country, so, keep him at his ranch.

while I do wish he'd stop wasting my tax dollors going around the country trying to promote his legislative agenda, the fact is, the president is never really on vacation, even when not in the white house itself.

It didn't bother the left when Kerry literally took a year off from voting in the Senate.

I'm sure Cheney is hard at work, not like Bush is the thinking type.

As usual, the left shows its inability to hold up to its own standards. What a bunch of obstructionist hypocrites!

What's worse, the inability to hold up to high standards, or the inability to come up with a set of standards in the first place.
Cry me a river, Zend.

This is only the 50th trip to Crawford. This does not include trips to Kennebunkport and Camp David. Why even have a White House? I don't feel that the job of the POTUS should be a telecommuting job. Can you imaging the outrage if Clinton had taken this many vacations? Does the phrase flies on sh!t mean anything to you?

As usual, you have nothing to add to discussions here but to call out Clinton or Kerry. Get a life. Yours is broken.

No, it's not. Thank YOU. These trips are footed by you and I. If you are OK with it, please lobby your congressman to increase your taxes so you can continue to foot the bill.

Am I supposed to decide this issue based on theoretical outrage towards Clinton if he had done this?

Heh... if it's effective either way, I can care less if he -or any other prez- sees people face to face or over a plasma TV. Looks like you just can't take a time-out from a perpetual Bush-Bash mindframe if you ask me.

Edit: And check your meter again bud, my posting history proves that I am not even close to being a rabid Bush basher.

Forget the White House, with Monica around nobody could get him out of his bedroom.

And no, I don't think there would be much outrage. Not from the right anyway.

Sorry, I forgot to add Monica to your list. My bad. So it's Kerry, Clinton, and Monica, throw in Hillary too for good measure. You toss her in a lot, too.

What does bashing liberals have to do with anything?

(and yeah, your history is so unbiased   )

As I recall, all the "bad" acts took place in the Oval Office while Clinton was working. If anyone kept Clinton away from work, it was the Repubs with their impeachment.

Kerry's not the president.

A powerful Senator doesn't have the responsibility to..wait for it...show up in the Senate once in a while?

You have an interesting definition of work btw.

Yep, as expected. You tell a fib and obfuscate. Typical. I suggest you learn how to use the search feature.

The problem with many vacations is one of accessibility. While it may be a working vaca, it is not the same as being at the place of employment. Saying telephones could be used is true to a degree, but most people have jobs too complex to be sitting at home and dialing out. They need to be at work to get the job done well. I would think being President would be at least as complicated as an office worker.
