edit: nevermind... overpriced. (or, the ones on the page are 15-20 thousand dollars more than what they expect to get at auction on a 4 blue ribbon alpaca)

Alpaca wool is not worthless. It is one of the softer wools out there. Especially the baby ones.
The major tax advantages of alpaca ranching include the use of depreciation, capital gains treatment, and if you are a hands-on rancher, the ability to offset your ordinary income with expenses from your alpaca ranching business.
