Buy a eVGA 6800GS CO AGP now or wait for 7800GS AGP if its ever released?

The eVGA 6800GS CO AGP has the same clockspeeds as its PCI-E brother and a of course there is always the chance of unlocking the remaining pipeline quad so I think its a great deal, but rumours are the 7800GS for AGP should come out in February, the 7800GS is a very attractive option due to the superior HDR rendering, more efficient pipelines and performance inbetween a 6800Ultra and 7800GT.

Damn.

Damn.

They're going back to AGP?

Damn.

From what others have speculated (and it's just that, speculation), the 7800GS will probly have 16 pipes, 400 Mhz core, and at a price point of $300. To me there isn't going to be much of a difference from a 6800GS unlocked and overclocked. If those spec's are true, I wouldn't wait. But who really knows what the 7800GS is going to offer? Anyone know the spec's of the "test" card they sent out with PCIe? Maybe that will give us a clue.

I'm pretty sure none of the AGP 6800GS have the same clock speed (stock) as their PCI-E brothers (unless I'm mistaken), but having said that, I'd still say the 6800GS is the best deal for AGP right now, and that will probably not change when the AGP 7800GS is released. As long as you unlock the 6800GS, it should be "roughly equal" to the stock 7800GS... unless there are unlockable pipes on the 7800GS (which nobody is guessing there will be).

So if you're willing to unlock the 6800GS, you should be getting a card roughly equal to the 7800GS for a lot less. My 2-cents.

Well, yeah, right now the two most tempting deals seem to be the BFG 6800GS which is 229 (it was 194 up until a few days ago) at Newegg and has 370/1050 clockspeeds, what makes it interesting is that some people have reported that it comes with 16 pipelines stock but I can't know how true that is, the other option is the eVGA 6800GS CO which is also 229 and has 400/1100 clockspeeds. I'm probably gonna go with the eVGA 6800GS but people have reported the BFG one comes with 16 pipes stock and that unlocking the pipes (should they not be unlocked) is a probable deal, a 25/50 overclock is a kid's game and I would pretty much have a 6800 Ultra with some OC overhead right there but I don't have a guarantee these 16 pipe rumours are true or that every BFG 6800GS has it. Ah, yet again another dillema.

Zipzoomfly has te BFG 6800 GS for 199.00$ and free shipping. I think Fex-Ex too.

The crucial bit of information in the AGP 6800 GS deal is where these chips are being derived from. Are they defective 6800 GTs that they threw into a pile until the discovered a use for them? Did they restart the 6800 GT fab?

It's worth pointing out some of the reviews in the eVGA 6800 GS on Newegg stated they failed to unlock their pipes. So there is (imo) a strong possibility these AGP cards might be based off of defective 6800GT's. OTOH, they might also have lower quality control now, since they only need 12 pipes working.
