Depends. For 802.11b and only 802.11b you'll be fine with a USB connection. For something like 802.11g you'd need the PCI card since USB doesn't have the bandwidth (assuming USB 1.1).

Had my "b" stuff on USB, when I upgraded, went with PCI to cut down on cable clutter, like it much better & the "G" stuff seems to have better reception.

Yea, it's 802.11b... It's very cheap. I jumped on the $9.99 AR Netgear 802.11b wireless router deal awhile back.

I bought a SMC PCMCIA card for my lappy for 10 bucks and a D-Link USB wireless adapter for another desktop for 20 bucks.

But I still have 1 desktop computer left, and I am searching on the net, and came to this 2 choices.

USB 2.0 can handle G no problem.

I have USB, PCI, PCMCIA, in bot B and G flavors. Aside from the bandwidth increase in G, there's not much difference performance wise. And USB is more flexible since you can pop it on another machine whenever you need to (visiting friends, etc).

I'd go with PCI.

I've been using a usb adapter for the past couple years and have never been really satisfied with it. tons of driver problems, and I've never been able to get it to work properly under linux.
