Just throwing this out there and would appreciate others opinion on this "deal". (where did I put that fire retardant suit?) ~ Oh there is OK - flame away. BTW ~ thanks to mikken for the heads on the buy.com offer. OK here it goes...

buy.com has a $30 off $150 or more for existing
[B

Linksys Cable/DSL Router with 4 10/100 switched ports ~ Also they have a $20 mail in rebate
[B

and since it's x-mas time, they have free shipping!

Deal equals $149.95 (don't forget to add something to bump it over $150.00)
$30 off on $150.00 or more, running tally = $120 ish, then add the mail in reabate and wallah, we are at $100ish > add in the value of the free shipping and it comes out to around the $90.00's.

So what do you guys think. I see on pricewatch the lowest price is $150's + shipping.
Also would appreciate feedback from anyone who has had good/bad experiences with this router.

Thanks for all the deals in the past ~ can't wait to get off the road to spend that MCI/Amazon GC deal that just took place. If anyone catches this while trolling, then could you post when the amazon GC expire?

Once again thanks for all the deals in the past. Hopep this turns out to be a hot deal.

Actually with the $15 off $100 coupon, it'd be $85 straight up. Speaking of SMC Router, last week CompUSA had this router for $99 after $80 rebate. Well if you looked at the rebate form, it stated that you only needed a copy of CompUSA receipt plus form filled in. NO UPC code. Could have made for an easy $80 if you're into that unethical "buy, scan receipt, return" stuff

Thanks for the feedback so far. Any thoughts as too which is the better performer since they are both going to come out to about the same price.

I bought the SMC barricade to network an old LaserJet Series II printer. I can't compare it to the linksys directly (since I never owned a linksys router), but the NAT router interface is MUCH BETTER than the Netgear router (which does not even come with print server). Performance-wise, they all seem about the same, but I don't play games so I couldn't tell you too much really. There's also a MODE in the SMC Barricade where you can "expose" an entire computer to the outside world, just as if it was directly plugged into your dsl/cable modem! Although a very dangerous option, it is great for testing/debugging network and port problems (SMTP, FTP, etc...).

I used the $30 off $150 coupon to get my D-Link router last week when there was no free shipping

I added a baseball for $1.95 (I think.. maybe $2.95) to bump it over $150.

DieselMan,
What you are referring to is a DMZ and most routers have this feature including Linksys

I've had my home network setup with the Linksys for about 4 or 5 months now and I am very happy with it. It was a snap to setup, and it meets the needs of my gaming and my wife's surfing to a tee..

-Worm-, that was it! Thanks for letting me know. I guess it's a common option nowadays (didn't have the DMZ option in my old proxy server software).

Great Deal!

I just ordered this today.

Ordered the router 149.95
and a bag of rubber bands .79
Total $150.74

Minus the $30.00 coupon
(Free shipping, and I upgraded the shipping to 2nd day for only $1.95)

Plus the $20.00 mail in rebate.

Buy.com is having a problem with the coupons today so I phoned this in, and
they took the order.

Great Router for only $102.69 shipped.

I had the Linksys, got tired of it freezing up all the time, and bought
the SMC. The SMC has been much more reliable for me. It also has
more features, included the modem and printer ports. I have DSL with
PPPOE, which I now know is the weak spot for the Linksys. If you
have a different setup, you'll probably have better luck than I
did with the Linksys.

I actually made money on the Linksys. I sold it for what I paid for it,
and the BFL rebate was all gravy.
