Does anyone know for sure that this is 8X ? Lexar also makes a 10X and 12X 160Mb CF.

Hey now, this card is definitely 4x speed and not 8x speed as erroneously posted by usatu. Therefore, it does not qualify for the $20 Lexar rebate, only the 8x model does. Furthermore, I called buy.com and confirmed this.

For your information, the 160 mb 4x DOTD is Mfg Part Number: CF160-08-245 4x 160mb DOTD

The 8x 160 mb is Mfg part#: CF160-08-241 and has list price of $494.00 8x 160 mb

Still a good deal even without the $20.00 rebate. Incidentally, I have a Lexar 80 mb 4x and it's blazing fast with the Jumpshot reader.

Sorry for the mess.
But before I made the post, I did a search on lexarmedia.com and didn't find anything about their 4x 160MB compact flash card.

Wait.. now I'm confused. The Lexar Media coupon states it will accept CF160-08-245, which is the part number for the Buy.com DOTD. This would imply that the DOTD is 8x speed. However, I'm got no idea of what the differences are between that and CF160-08-241, other then its price @ $190, the word "digital" in its title, and that Lexar Media's online store lists the 8x 160MB as PN *241, not *245..

hell, 4x, 8x, faster than 1x not a bad deal if you can't wait for the kingston rebate/don't want to deal w/ rebates.

ugh, it's so tempting to buy this.. i'm almost positive i'll find some way to buy the digicam i want... but only almost

and there's only two mp3 players that takes CF i think, RCA had one, and the NexII...

CAN YOU SPELL BAIT AND SWITCH....
If you go to the deal of the day screen you will notice, or at least on my screen there is no mgf part number.
When I go to my basket and click on the description, then it brings up the part number.
Now if you search Buy.com for lexar and check out all the descriptions they ALL list the speed of the card, 4x, 8x etc... Now the normal price on the net is 170-190 for the 8x. The 8x lists for $190 at buy.con.
So this goes down to less than 30% off deal with basically a clearance of older tech, 4x vs 8x. Probably in the next month or two you will be able to get this for this price anyway or the 8x for close to this price.

Now I consider this a misleading ad, that you have to click through your reciept for part number and that no where on the Buy.CON site do you find a mention of this part number or that they carry the 4x card.
I have complained to buy.con and taken screen shots and waiting to forward to the BBB if they don't correct their ad.

i confirmed this with a LEXAR rep:

CF160-08-245 = Compact Flash 160MB 8X w/ jumpshot cable
CF160-08-241 = Compact Flash 160MB 8X refill only (i.e. no jumpshot)

so as long as the buy.com CF160-08-245 part # is true, rebate applies.
there is also a rebate for the 241...

There is no 4X speed in a Lexar 160MB Type1 CF - only 8X 10X and 12X.

I have a Nikon 990 and before that a Nikon 950. I sold my other CF's (Sandisk, etc.) just to get the Lexar 8X CF's. I have a 48MB, an 80MB and 128MB. All 8X. The Lexar 160MB came out shortly after Lexar started using 8X, so there never was a 4X version.

The Lexar 8X does make a great difference with my Nikon as compared to other CF's at 4X - it allows me to take more shots in a short period of time because of its ability to be written to from my camera's buffer in half the time of a 4X - thus, I'm ready for another shot much quicker.

The firmware in Lexar's CF's is also upgradeable - It's not widely used yet, but in time will probably be able to be programmed to optimize its use with whatever particular device you may be using it with.

I still don't see any Manufacturer's number on this deal. Should we trust the word of a CSR ? How are they privy to this knowledge ?

ok... i have it straight now..

its definitely a 8x card. the mfg number has 08 in the 8x cards and 04 in the 4x cards.
the 10x and 12x cards have 10 and 12 in their mfg numbers. the differences between CF16008241 and CF16008245 is that the 245 is a later revision of the card. the 245 has a curved shaped jumpshot cable and the 241 has the transparent rectangular one. also the 245 has the new professinal series sticker while the 241 has the old yellow sticker on it. i also have the nikon 990 with the 241 8x 160meg.. and it kiks butt. this will be a "refill" card for me.. (besides the fact that im cost averaging the cards.. i paid around $400 for it a little more that a year ago for it).

use the $5 off $50 coupon for new customers.. thats the only one that works.

heres a link to illustrate the difference:

the part # with 241 does not come with the jumpshot cable EXCEPT FOR
computers4sure and solutions4sure which offer a mail-in offer for the
jumpshot (follow the pricegrabber links and you'll see - pricegrabber
description is misleading).

the jumpshot comes standard (i.e. same package) with the 245 part #.
lexar calls it a "combo" package. "refill" is the word lexar uses when
selling the media only (i guess as in digital film refill),
