Hmm, seems anything in clearance is a DOTD, provided you follow the correct URL! These are some of the nicer prices I've found, plus you get free shipping! Too bad going through the DOTD script doesnt lower the prices any, but these are good anyways!

I'm not understanding this...Whats going on here, are these simply sku's pointing to clearance items?

Or is there a real advantage in doing this vs. just going to the clearance section?

To clear up the DOTD vs clearance SKU thing...


all clearance SKUs are NOT deal of the days.

BUT

all DOTDs ARE clearance SKUs.


Because of this relationship, yes, you can take any clearnace SKU and pop it into the DealOfTheDay.asp file and it'll seem to work. You'll check out, all is good. All you've done however is bought a clearance item.

Deal of the days are basically ANY item from the buy.com store that they've (They being marketing or some other entity that I don't work for) decided to feature and discount. What then happens is they hand that over to some applications we've wrote that then places them into the clearance SKU database.....so in effect they are now specialized clearance SKUs that are probably availble elsewhere in the site as some other SKU...except now they're in the clearance database w/ a different price than we normally sell it at and we'll also somehow determine how many to sell at this price (hence the little count down thing)..

That's not to say that sometimes DOTD won't just be a normal clearance SKU that they've decided to give additional discounts to, simply to move the item out quickly..

So, remember, just cuz the page loaded, doesn't mean you're getting a "real" DOTD...it just looks like you did.
